Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) engaged in a virtual meeting via zoom on March 9, 2026 to explore potential academic partnerships. Both institutions introduced their respective programs and institutional strengths, identifying areas for collaboration in sports education, psychology, medicine, and other related disciplines.

The discussions covered a wide range of initiatives, including student and faculty mobility programs, joint research projects, academic exchanges, and extension activities. Opportunities for research grants, virtual engagements, and co-organized scholarly events such as conferences, seminars, and training workshops were also highlighted.

Representing SLSU were university officials including the College Dean, program chair, and faculty members from the concerned programs, while UKM was represented by its officials and academic heads. This exchange of perspectives underscored the mutual interest of both institutions in fostering international academic cooperation.

To formalize the collaboration, the parties agreed to begin with a Letter of Intent (LOI), which will serve as the foundation for subsequent agreements such as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). This process reflects the shared commitment of SLSU and UKM to advancing global academic linkages, strengthening institutional capacity, and contributing to knowledge creation through collaborative initiatives.
