SLSU BSHM Students Capture 1st Place in ASEAN Food Festival, Earn Multiple Honors at VOYAGE 2026

BACOOR, CAVITE — Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) students emerged 1st Place in the ASEAN Food Festival category of VOYAGE 2026: The ASEAN Festival of CALABARZON, held on September 1, 2026, in Bacoor, Cavite.

Representing the Philippines, BSHM students Kurt P. Gloton, Kenneth G. Palad, and Christian Vincent O. Daleon, under the guidance of their coach, Dr. Claire Ann M. Yao, bested 11 finalist schools in the culminating stage of the competition.

The SLSU team impressed the judges with their innovative presentation of Philippine cuisine, featuring a main course, street food, and beverage that showcased Filipino culinary creativity, local flavors, and cultural identity. Their performance earned them a trophy, certificate, and ₱7,000 cash prize.

The victory highlights the students' culinary skills, creativity, teamwork, and dedication in promoting Philippine gastronomy through an ASEAN-themed competition. It also reflects the commitment of the SLSU BSHM program to developing hospitality professionals capable of competing and excelling in regional and international platforms.

Meanwhile, other SLSU representatives competing in separate VOYAGE 2026 categories also brought distinction to the university. SLSU earned 1st Runner-Up in the ASEAN Ambassadress category and 1st Runner-Up in the Cultural Presentation, while another SLSU representative secured 3rd Runner-Up in the ASEAN Quiz Bee.

SLSU representatives also advanced as finalists in the Poster Making Competition and Male Ambassador category, further demonstrating the university's strong representation across the various components of the ASEAN Festival.

The SLSU community extends its warmest congratulations to Team SLSU BSHM, Coach Dr. Claire Ann M. Yao, and all SLSU representatives who proudly carried the university's name at VOYAGE 2026.

Congratulations to Christian Daleon, Kurt Gloton, Kenneth and Palad (BSHM IV) for their 1st Runner-up Placement in the ASEAN Food Festival of Commission on Higher Education(CHED) CALABARZON ASEAN Voyage 2026 held September 1 in Bacoor, Cavite.

Dr. Claire Ann Yao served as their coach and mentor for this category!

SLSU Main Campus BSHM Students Sweep Lambanog Mixology Competition Podium

Three Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) students from Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) – Main Campus dominated the Lambanog Mixology Competition on August 25, 2026, capturing the Championship, First Runner-Up, and Second Runner-Up titles among eight competitors during the Lambanog Festival 2026 at SLSU – Tayabas Campus.

Christian Vincent Daleon clinched the championship with a score of 96 percent for his winning creation, “Damhin,” which highlighted Quezon’s cultural identity through its concept and distinctive presentation. Kenneth Palad secured First Runner-Up with 95.67 percent for “Biyaya ng Katas,” inspired by Quezon’s culinary identity and coconut industry. Meanwhile, Kurt Gloton earned Second Runner-Up with 91.67 percent for “Pamana,” a modern coffee cocktail inspired by the Italian dessert tiramisu and traditional local ingredients.

The competition brought together student competitors from SLSU – Tayabas Campus, SLSU – Main Campus, and Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF), showcasing creativity and technical skills in developing innovative lambanog-based beverages.

The entries were evaluated by industry and technical experts Sherrie Sampang, Business Development Manager of CHEMREZ; Ninette J. Papiña, Instructor I at TESDA QNAS; and Kalel Demetrio, Master Blender of Alab Distillery Corp.

The competition highlighted the potential of lambanog as a platform for culinary innovation, cultural expression, and the promotion of Quezon’s local products and gastronomic identity.

SLSU Students Advance to Finals of VOYAGE 2026 ASEAN Festival of CALABARZON

Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) proudly celebrates the achievement of the BSHM Students who have advanced to the Finalist Stage of VOYAGE 2026: The ASEAN Festival of CALABARZON culinary challenge held last August 24, 2026 in Lipa, Batangas marking a significant milestone for the university’s representatives.

The SLSU team, composed of Kurt P. Gloton, Kenneth G. Palad, and Christian Vincent O. Daleon, under the guidance of their coach, Dr. Claire Ann M. Yao, successfully secured a place in the Top 11 vying for the final round after demonstrating creativity, teamwork, determination, and commitment throughout the competition.

The team will compete in the Finals on September 1, 2026, where they will face the final stage of the competition and showcase their talents and preparation.

The SLSU community extends its congratulations to Team SLSU and wishes them the best of luck in the finals. With one more performance ahead, the team is encouraged to trust their preparation, support one another, and embrace the experience with confidence and pride.
