The law has spoken, and so must we.
Under 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟵 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗡𝗼. 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟱, the University President is appointed by the University Board, upon the recommendation of a duly constituted search committee, to serve a term of 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 (𝟰) 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, with a privilege to be reappointed for another term.
On 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟴, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮. 𝗘𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗠. 𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗰𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 and assumed her legal and administrative duties as the university president. In 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮, she was 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱. Four years from that reappointment, her term ends this November 2026.
One month. That is all that remains.
In one month, a chapter of our university’s history will end, and a new one will begin. The question is whether we will merely watch it unfold or help write it.
𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲. Our numbers bear extreme weight. Our voice carries force, our judgment carries consequence, and our choice carries a future. The direction of our beloved university, the quality of our education, and the welfare of 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐭.
Rizalianos, history is calling.
𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝.
𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝.
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬: 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬.
So let us not be asleep while history is being made. Let us be awake. Be informed. Ask questions. Be vigilant, for decisions made in silence are rarely made in our favor. Be discerning, for not every promise deserves our trust. And above all, be wise, for this choice will outlast our time in these halls.
