Three Cheers to Brod Joram Nelson Parras Vivo II, MD Φ2017B for winning 1st place and 3rd place in the Observational Study category of the Residents' Visual Abstract Contest and Residents' Research Contest, respectively!

The contests were held on October 10 and 15, 2026, respectively, in celebration of the 31st Annual Research Week of the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital.

Under the contests' theme, "Perspectives and Gains in Health Research VIII: Shaping the Future of Health Through Research Excellence", Brod Joram successfully presented his study, which was coauthored by Brod Jose Ma. Pascual Dionisio Bautista, MD, FPOA Φ1984B and Brod Jendrietch Adrian Tabamo Lopez, MD Φ2022, entitled, "Infection Rates of Open Hand Fractures Managed with Emergency Room Wound Closure Versus Operating Room Debridement in a Tertiary General Hospital in the Philippines".

He is currently a 4th year Resident of the Department of Orthopedics of the UP-PGH. In 2022, Brod Joram graduated Cum Laude from the UP College of Medicine.

Three Cheers to Brod John Patrick Berroya Bulaong, RPh, MD Φ2017B for achieving a 98th percentile rank in the 2026 Residents’ In-Service Examination (RISE) of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS)!

The RISE is a nationwide standardized examination that assesses the knowledge, clinical decision-making, and readiness of obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) residents across the country, making Brod Jack’s performance an outstanding testament to his diligence, academic excellence, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of obstetrics and gynecology.

Brod Jack is currently a third-year OB-GYN resident at the Philippine General Hospital. In 2022, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and successfully passed the Physician Licensure Examination in the same year.

Congratulations, Brod Jack! May you continue to exemplify PHI Excellence in your medical journey.

Three cheers to Benjamin Francis Pablo Rodriguez, Jr., MD, FPCR, FCTMRISP, FUSP Φ2014 for being conferred the titles of Fellow of the Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Society of the Philippines and Fellow of the Ultrasound Society of the Philippines during their Joint Annual Convention on October 9, 2026!

Brod Benj earned his medical degree from the UP College of Medicine in 2019. After graduating, he pursued Radiology residency training at the UP - Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) from 2020 to 2023. In 2024, he achieved the title of Diplomate of the Philippine Board of Radiology, acing the examination as a topnotcher. Brod Benj became the Chief Fellow during his CT-MRI fellowship training at UP-PGH from 2024 to 2025, after which he pursued further fellowship training in Diagnostic Ultrasound in the same institution in 2025. This year, he took the Global Hands-On Musculoskeletal MRI and Ultrasound Mini-Fellowship Course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 2026. He took and passed the certifying examinations of the Philippine Board of CT-MRI on May 2026, and of the Philippine Board of Ultrasound on August 2026.

Brod Benj is currently a consultant for the UP - Philippine General Hospital, Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, Fe Del Mundo Medical Center, and The Medical City - Ortigas, with special interests on Doppler, musculoskeletal, and oncologic imaging.

Congratulations, Brod! Your hard work and perseverance in your field continue to bring pride to the Brotherhood and embody the pillar of PHI Excellence.

Three Cheers to Brod Dominic Leandro Fernandez Milla, MD, FPCR, FCTMRISP Φ2013 for being conferred the title of Fellow of the Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Society of the Philippines on October 9, 2026!

Currently, Brod Andro is pursuing an International Fellowship in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging at the Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea. Prior to his current fellowship training, Brod Andro graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine through the Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine (INTARMED) program in 2018. He completed his residency training in Diagnostic Radiology in 2024 and his fellowship in Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging in 2026 at the UP-Philippine General Hospital.

During his training, he served as the Assistant Chief Resident for External Affairs in 2021, represented the PGH Department of Radiology as the Vice President of the Philippine College of Radiology Chief Residents’ Council that same year, and later took on the role of Assistant Chief Resident for Conferences and Continuing Medical Education in 2022.

Congratulations, Brod Andro! Your relentless pursuit of clinical excellence and academic rigor highlights your commitment to advancing radiologic science and elevating the standard of patient care. May you continue to exemplify the Pillar of PHI Excellence!

Three cheers to Brod Alexis Urmatan San Diego, MD Φ2022, for ranking 8th in the recently concluded October 2026 Physician Licensure Examination, held on October 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2026.

In 2026, Brod Axel graduated magna cm laude with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the UP College of Medicine, where he also received the Faculty Bronze Medal Award. He had previously graduated magna cm laude with a Bachelor of Science in Basic Medical Sciences through the Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine (INTARMED) Program in August 2024.

Kicking off OS 203 with the Upper Extremity Review for Class 2031! 💪🩺

The Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity and the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority hosted the OS 203 MSK Upper Extremity Review for Class 2031 last September 14, 2026, at the 7th Floor MSB Plenary Hall.

Led by Brod Oico Brillante Φ2015, the session covered high-yield concepts and key points on the upper extremity, reinforcing the class’s understanding of the module.

We hope the review served you well throughout OS 203. On to the next, Class 2031!

Three cheers to Brods Earl Jerald Fadriquela Cansino Φ2024, Mikael Carlos Almazar Mendoza Φ2024, and Louiejabe Yap Nuniala Φ2024, together with their colleagues, for receiving an Honorable Mention for Best Student Paper at the 3rd International Conference on Education 2026, held at Abu Dhabi University on October 7–8, 2026!

Their paper, “Negotiating AI Reliance and Emerging Dependence in Medical Education: A Qualitative Study of Medical Students’ Experiences with Generative Artificial Intelligence,” was recognized for its academic merit and significant contribution to the conference theme. It highlights the critical role of artificial intelligence in medical education and offers timely insights into how medical students negotiate reliance on generative AI while safeguarding independent clinical reasoning and professional judgment.

Three cheers to Brod Ellewellyn Gueco Pasion MD, FPCS, FPOA, FACS Φ1964 who was awarded Emeritus National Representative by the Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT) last September 29, 2026, during its Congress in Kyoto, Japan!

Brod Lewy graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 1968 and finished his Residency Training in Orthopedics at UP-PGH, Department of Orthopedics in 1972. He previously served as President of the Philippine Orthopedic Association in 1987, President of the ASEAN Orthopedic Association in 1988, National Representative of the Philippines to SICOT from 1993 to 2014, and as President of the Asia Pacific Orthopedic Association from 2022 to 2024.

As a distinguished orthopedic surgeon, educator, and international leader in orthopedics, Brod Lewy has achieved a myriad of awards including the Presidential Leadership Award in 2023 from the Philippine Orthopedic Association, Lifetime Achievement Awards from the ASEAN Orthopedic Association in 2023, the Philippine Board of Orthopedics in 2024, and the Philippine College of Surgeons in 2025, and his conferment as Honorary Fellow for Exemplary Leadership of the Asia Pacific Orthopedic Association in 2025.
