π DLSU Human-X goes to NASA Ames!
Last week, Dr. Jordan Aiko Deja presented Space-HUD at SpaceCHI 2026, the world's first conference dedicated to advancing human-computer interaction in space exploration, held at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California.
Space-HUD explores a deceptively simple question with important implications for future space missions: Where should XR instructions appear when astronauts need to perform maintenance tasks while wearing gloves? The project investigates different placements of spatial information to better understand how XR interfaces can support interaction and task performance in space and analog mission environments. The work was presented as part of SpaceCHI's session on XR interfaces for crew training and operation.
The project is an international collaboration between De La Salle University, UCLouvain in Belgium, and Θtefan cel Mare University of Suceava in Romania. DLSU CS-ST alumni/students Mikkel Dominic Gamboa and Rendell Christian Ngo contributed to the design, development, and evaluation of the prototype and research.
SpaceCHI brings together an interdisciplinary community working at the intersection of human-computer interaction and space exploration. This year's program at NASA Ames featured research presentations, demonstrations, and keynotes spanning XR, human-AI interaction, robotics, astronaut support, habitat design, and other challenges for future space exploration.
