On May 12, 2016, in celebration of International Nurses Week, the National League of Philippine Government Nurses, Inc. (NLPGNI) and the University of the Philippines College of Nursing organized a Round table discussion entitled “Challenges of the Changing Climate and the Environment to Health and Practice”. The activity aims to define the nurses’ roles and responsibilities in the care of the environment and in strengthening health system. In the event were Dr. Renzo Guinto, Main Campaigner Health Energy Initiatives for CWH-Asia, and Dr. Fely Marilyn Lorenzo, UP Institute of Health, which served as the main speakers for the event. To share insights and experiences, Ang NARS Partylist Representative Hon. Congresswoman Leah Primitiva Paquiz and a set of reactors also participated in the round table discussion including Hon. Corazon Anoñuevo, PRC-BON Member, Ms. Portia Vitug, PENEA President and Ms. Asuncion Santos, Parañaque City Health PHN. They emphasized that health and climate are related as BON Member Hon. Corazon Anoñuevo has said” Climate is a determinant of Health”. They also emphasized the roles of nurses in mitigating the effects of climate change through advocacy and social mobilization. To end the activity, Ms. Nilda Silvera, NLPGNI President, encouraged each and everyone especially nurses to be catalyst towards healthy environment.
