PHILIPPINE EXTREME HEAT FORUM 2026
Extreme Heat, Shared Risks, Collective Action: Building a Heat-Resilient Philippines

Extreme heat is an increasingly urgent public health, environmental, and development challenge, with far-reaching implications for human health, livelihoods, economic productivity, urban sustainability, and community well-being.

As climate-related risks intensify, strengthening preparedness and protecting vulnerable populations require more than awareness. They call for science-informed decisions, responsive institutions, innovative local solutions, and coordinated action across sectors and communities.

On October 27, 2026, the Green Cities Consortium—comprising the University of the Philippines College of Public Health, Development Partners Consulting, Inc. (DPCI), CIVIKA, and Greenscape Urban Solutions—in partnership with Galing Pook Foundation, will convene the Philippine Extreme Heat Forum 2026.

The Forum will bring together international and Philippine experts, national and local government leaders, public health professionals, researchers, development partners, civil society, and private-sector stakeholders to advance a shared understanding of extreme heat risks and explore practical pathways toward stronger public health protection and more sustainable, resilient communities.

Drawing on scientific evidence, international experience, and Philippine local innovations, the Forum will focus on four interconnected priorities:

1. Understanding Extreme Heat Risks
Strengthening scientific understanding of climate trends, heat exposure, and their implications for Philippine communities.
2. Protecting Public Health and Vulnerable Populations
Advancing heat-health preparedness, preventive measures, and community-based protection.
3. Strengthening Local Leadership and Urban Solutions
Highlighting practical innovations, climate-responsive urban development, and local government initiatives.
4. Advancing Collective Action and Partnerships
Identifying opportunities for institutional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and coordinated interventions.

Beyond knowledge exchange, the Forum seeks to identify priority actions and opportunities for sustained collaboration, connecting scientific knowledge, public health priorities, and local governance solutions to support healthier, safer, and more livable Philippine cities and communities.

The UP College of Public Health is accepting applications from BSPH students currently enrolled in PH 192/199.

💡 This grant aims to support outstanding undergraduate research projects that advance the field of public health.

📄 Two (2) grants worth ₱25,000 each will be awarded:
• One (1) for the Medical Laboratory Sciences track
• One (1) for the Population Health track

In celebration of the National Mental Health Week and World Mental Health Day, the UP Manila College of Public Health held its October Flag Raising Ceremony on 12 October 2026 at the CPH Auditorium with the theme “Beyond Resilience: Building Healthy and Compassionate Systems and Communities”

Dr. Lester M. Tan, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health and Concurrent Director of the Health Promotion Bureau, shared an inspirational message that highlighted the importance of moving beyond individual resilience to foster healthy and compassionate systems and environments. Dr. Tan emphasized that sustainable mental health promotion is achievable by also focusing on the social determinants of health and by building supportive environments where everyone can thrive.

Hosted by the Department of Health Promotion and Education, the ceremony was a meaningful gathering for the community as we continue the work of building healthier and more compassionate spaces for all.
