More often than not, people studying or working in psychology are mistaken as mind-readers. As they usually say, โBasahin mo nga kung ano ang naiisip ko.โ Many misconceptions have been debunked and supported by evidence in this discipline. But for this interlude, I would like to highlight the nuanced colors of Psychology. On the surface, people tend to see this field as a single color โ a one-dimensional hue strictly bound to counseling patients, solving emotional problems, or reading peopleโs minds. Some would even assume that this discipline is just a ticket to an HR post or to becoming a guidance counselor. Because of this boxed mindset, people presume this discipline is โsoftโ or, worse, reduced to mere โcommon sense.โ We have to understand that Psychology is a spectrum of colors anchored firmly in the scientific method.
