Development Studies Program - UP Manila The official page of UP Manila Development Studies Program

Development Studies is a multi-disciplinary field of study that includes an understanding of the economic, political, social, technological and cultural aspects of social change especially in underdeveloped and developing countries. It contributes to policy-making by seeking solutions and strategies to address problems and obstacles to genuine human development. These issues are examined within a

historical, comparative and international perspective, taking into accounts the country's specific circumstances, history and culture.

We warmly congratulate the graduates of the Development Studies Program batch 2026!

Earning your UP diploma is no small feat. Through long nights of policy research, intense development debates in class, enriching fieldwork experience in communities, and countless advocacy audio-visual materials, you chose to persevere not just for yourselves, but also for others โ€“ especially the oppressed and underrepresented. Consistent with critical praxis, you chose not only to understand the conditions of poverty, marginality, inequality, social exclusion, and underdevelopment โ€” but also to tackle and transform them.

Most certainly, your degree is more than an academic accomplishment. It is an earnest reminder to give back and stand in solidarity with the people.

As you move on to the next chapter of your lives, carry with you the UPโ€™s core values:
- acting with integrity (honor);
- working diligently and exceptionally well (excellence); and
- putting people first, especially the underserved (public service)

Muli, pagpupugay sa inyong tagumpay.
Mag-ambag sa kaunlarang nakabatay sa katarungan.
Padayon sa mga dakilang adhikaing lampas sa sarili.
