𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐍 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥 𝐓𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞

The 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 successfully conducted the first ECON Excel session, a tutorial program designed to support ECON 101 students in strengthening their understanding of core economic concepts. The session was instructed by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐞 𝐒. 𝐂𝐮𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐚, 𝐌𝐬. 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐚 𝐆. 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐫. 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐦 𝐆. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 that brought them together, creating an engaging and collaborative learning environment. Participants actively joined discussions, reinforcing their grasp of foundational topics while benefiting from the guidance of the tutors. The Economics Department professors’ continued support and encouragement further enriched the program, ensuring alignment with academic standards and enhancing classroom learning.

The Junior Economics Society extends its sincere gratitude to all students, tutors, and faculty members who contributed to the success of this session. The Department of Economics of Mindanao State University Main Campus, in partnership with BSP Cotabato, successfully held a two-hour Public Information Campaign dedicated to strengthening financial literacy among MSUans. The event brought together students, faculty, and young aspiring economists eager to deepen their understanding of the Philippine financial system. Through this collaboration, participants were given direct access to expert insights from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

The session featured distinguished speakers 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐄. 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐚𝐲 𝐈𝐈𝐈, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐬 𝐅. 𝐃𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐚, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐬. 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐧 𝐆. 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚, each offering valuable perspectives on crucial topics. Students learned about the BSP’s vital role in promoting economic stability and safeguarding monetary policy. The discussion on digital payments and cybersecurity highlighted the importance of safe and informed financial practices in an increasingly digital world.

One of the most engaging parts of the lecture was the presentation on the first polymer banknote series, where attendees explored its design elements and advanced security features. The speakers emphasized how innovations like polymer currency contribute to improved durability, safety, and sustainability.

The Junior Economics Society and the Department of Economics express their deep gratitude for this opportunity, a meaningful investment in knowledge that promises strong long-term returns for MSUans as they navigate the evolving economic landscape.

Understanding the features of genuine Philippine peso bills is the first step in protecting ourselves from counterfeit notes. Each banknote is equipped with security elements, such as watermarks, security threads, and tactile marks, which make it unique and difficult to replicate.

By learning to recognize these features, we can prevent fraud and avoid financial loss. A simple yet effective method to verify your bills is the “𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡-𝙇𝙤𝙤𝙠-𝙏𝙞𝙡𝙩” approach, which is easy and free for anyone to use. Staying alert and cautious ensures that our hard-earned money remains safe and secure.

Empowering every Filipino with knowledge about money, technology, and the economy lies at the heart of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) advocacy programs.
