MSU Rearguards Inc. a Para-Military Organization of Cadet/Cadette Officers of the Mindanao State University ROTC Unit (N Brief History of MSU REARGUARDS, Inc.

It was summer of 1973 when the Rearguards Founding Triumvirate (RFT) consisting of Cadets First Class Paisal Umpa, Benedict Posadas, Hajan Usman and other MSU-ROTC Cadet Officers founded the MSU Rearguards at the campus of the Mindanao State University in Marawi City. Umpa resided at the first floor of the South Wing while Posadas and Usman were roommates at Room 63 North Wing in Rajah Indarapatra

Hall. The MSU DAST Office was conducting a Civic Project (CIVAC) involving the relocation of Barrio Mahirap among others, in April and May 1973. The Rearguards Triumvirate handled the daily deployment of CIVAC participants mostly inside the campus. The World Food Organization distributed some products to the participants that year --- dehydrated potato, powdered eggs, raisins, corned beef, margarine and many more. It was during this period when discussions started and finalized the formation of the MSU Rearguards. The first batch of Dumbguards was recruited at the beginning of school year 1973-74. This recollection would mean that our Foundation Month was June 1973. Tiger Benz
