The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Development (OVCRED) is pleased to welcome a distinguished new addition to our team, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗠. 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗼, 𝗥𝗙𝗣, a faculty member of the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.

Professor Capistrano is a distinguished MSUan and a top-performing fisheries professional, having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries from Mindanao State University–Marawi in 2016 and earning the distinction of Top 1 in the 2021 Fisheries Technologist Licensure Examination.

Professor Capistrano gained valuable professional experience with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), particularly through the Fisheries Industry Development and Support Services Division (FIDSSD) and the BFAR National Mariculture Center. His extensive experience in research management, fisheries development, and research collaboration will be a valuable contribution to the OVCRED's continuing efforts to strengthen our research and development initiatives and foster meaningful partnerships with various institutions and stakeholders.

The OVCRED warmly welcomes Professor Capistrano, and looks forward to your valuable contributions to the Office and the University. We wish you a fulfilling and productive journey with us.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Development (OVCRED) sincerely extends our profound appreciation to Prof. Engr. Amierson C. Tilendo, MSc for his dedicated service as Special Assistant to the OVCRED.

During his tenure, Prof. Engr. Tilendo made valuable contributions to the effective and efficient operations of the Office. His commitment, expertise, and collaborative efforts significantly supported the OVCRED’s initiatives, particularly in strengthening institutional linkages and fostering partnerships with universities, research institutions, and other stakeholders. His service has contributed meaningfully to advancing the Office’s mandate and enhancing its engagement with academic and research partners.

As he embarks on a new chapter in his academic career, the OVCRED extends our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Engr. Tilendo as he pursues his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering by Research at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) through the DOST–Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) Scholarship. We are confident that this academic endeavor will further enrich his expertise and enable him to make significant contributions to the fields of chemical engineering, research, and to the wider MSU community.

UNEP published Limiting Overshoot, its first report on the likelihood and consequences of exceeding 1.5°C of global warming. It finds that global temperature rise is set to cross 1.5°C, likely within the next few years, pushing climate risks to increasingly dangerous levels.

The report also finds that temperatures can still be brought back down in line with the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. Doing so will require aggressive emissions cuts, a major scale-up of responsible carbon removal — ultimately moving beyond net zero to net-negative emissions — and urgent action on adaptation and resilience to address climate impacts.

The latest science shows that the planet will keep getting hotter. An alternative exists: an “Overshoot, peak and decline” pathway. Every fraction of a degree avoided and every year by which overshoot is shortened will save lives, protect ecosystems and reduce economic losses.

Bringing global temperatures back below 1.5°C requires countries to act fast to cut carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases.
