Strengthening Partnerships for Sports Development

The MSU CSPEAR – Department of Extension conducted a productive meeting with the BARMM MBHTE – Marawi City Division to explore opportunities for academic partnership and technical assistance in sports development.

The MBHTE Marawi City Division, headed by Schools Division Superintendent Sahanee M. Sumagayan, PhD, was actively represented by Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Sobaida Diron-Ampuan during the strategic planning session.

The proposed partnership aims to tap the expertise of Mindanao State University (MSU) as a resource institution, providing qualified speakers, trainers, and technical experts who can support the professional development of teachers and sports personnel of the MBHTE Marawi City Division.

Among the envisioned programs are:
Sports Clinics
Coaching Enhancement Programs
Technical Officiating Training
Capability Training for sports educators and managers

This initiative proudly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being – Promoting healthy lifestyles through physical education and active sports.
SDG 4: Quality Education – Equipping teachers and sports personnel with advanced skills and inclusive training.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Collaborating with local institutions to maximize community impact and foster development.

We are incredibly excited to bring this vision to life and share our passion for physical education and sports excellence with the Marawi City community. Together, we are building stronger, smarter, and highly capable sports leaders!

Beyond the Court: HolyHoops 2.0 was a Slam Dunk for the Community

Nothing beats the energy of a community united by the love of the game. This March 2026, the MSU Grandstand came alive as CSPEAR successfully conducted the HolyHoops 2.0 Basketball Tournament!

More than just a competition, this extension activity was about bringing the MSU-Main Campus neighborhood together. We’re sending a huge shoutout to our lead organizers, Prof. Joseph Gieward Layao and Prof. Allan Kim Cabana, and the tireless team at the Sociaballs Basketball Organization for making this vision a reality.

To our community participants: You brought the heart, the hustle, and the spirit!

Stay tuned for more CSPEAR initiatives as we continue to move, play, and grow together.

Flashback Friday: Reaching New Heights with "Serve and Climb"

Can we take a moment to look back at one of our most meaningful extension activities? Three years ago (Feb 24-26, 2023), the MSU CSPEAR faculty and alumni team took the mission of "service through sports" to the roof of the Philippines!

Our "Serve and Climb" journey was the perfect blend of community impact and physical endurance. Here’s a look at what made those three days unforgettable:

1. Empowering the Youth: Sports Clinic
We headed to Lake Agco Integrated School in Kidapawan City to share our passion for the game. Our team conducted clinics for: Basketball ,Volleyball , and Football

Thanks to the support of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), we were able to provide top-notch equipment for the students. The best part? All the equipment was donated to the school afterward to ensure the spirit of sportsmanship continues to thrive in Brgy. Ilomavis!

2. Healing the Earth: Tree Planting
Before we hit the peak, we made sure to leave a green footprint. The team conducted a tree-planting activity at the Mandangan Trail, contributing to the preservation of our natural playground.

3. Conquering the Peak: Mt. Apo
To top it all off, our selected faculty and alumni successfully conquered Mt. Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines.

From the humid courts to the chilly peaks, the MSU CSPEAR spirit never wavered.

Serve and Climb 2.0 coming SOON!!
