MSU Sustainable Community Development Community Development Department, College of Public Affairs, Mindanao State University - Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Philippines

Community Development Department was the only academic program of the College of Community Development and Public Administration (CDPA), one of the pioneering colleges of the Mindanao State University in Marawi City when it opened classes in 1962. Through this academic program, the college was able to establish linkages with other institutions and engaged in several tie-up programs in Community De

velopment. The introduction of new academic programs in Public Administration and Social Work in the 70โ€™s and 80โ€™s respectively, gave way to the creation of separate departments and eventually renaming of the college into the present College of Public Affairs (CPA). Thus, in 1981, together with the department of Public Administration and the department of Social Work, Community Development was reborn as a Department. Since then, the department has continuously upgraded its curricula, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and produced students who are presently occupying positions in both government agencies (GAs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) engaged in community development work, either in Administration, Field Work or Teaching. The department has likewise continued to reach out to LGUs, GAs, and NGOs through research and extension activities in the field of Community Development Planning and Administration, Community Research, Community Organizing, Mobilization and Organizational Development, Cooperatives, Trainings, and Project Development and Management. These activities are made possible through its practicum classes or through faculty โ€“ initiated tie-up programs with said institutions.

Pag-oorganisa ng pamayanan tungo sa kaunlaran na mula sa tao, para sa tao.

Widely known principle from the icon of organizing in the Philippines, Professor Angelito Manalili, aka Ka Lito. He is known for his significant contributions to the establishment and growth of pro-poor organizations, federations, and movements across various sectors, including labor, urban poor, farmers, and indigenous communities throughout the Philippines.

On November 12, 2025, during the College of Public Affairs - MSU Main Campus's benchmarking activity at UP Diliman, some faculty from the Community Development Department and CPA officials met him and were lucky to be recipients of his most recent publication on community organizing.

Thank you, Ka Lito!
