The Mathematics Program of the University of the Philippines Cebu will host a World Expert Lecture Series (WELS) on 23 June 2026 at 8:00 AM in AVR 1, UP Cebu, featuring two distinguished researchers from Kanazawa University, Japan.
The lecture series, titled “Recent Developments in Structure-Preserving and Adaptive Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations,” will showcase recent advances in computational mathematics, numerical analysis, and scientific computing, particularly in the development of robust numerical methods for solving complex partial differential equations.
Dr. Masato Kimura of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Institute of Science and Engineering, Kanazawa University, will deliver a lecture on “Energy Dissipation in Irreversible Phase-Field Fracture Models and Their Extensions.” His presentation will discuss mathematical models and numerical techniques for analyzing fracture phenomena in materials.
Meanwhile, Dr. Hirofumi Notsu, also from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Institute of Science and Engineering, Kanazawa University, will present “Stabilized Lagrange–Galerkin Methods: Theory and Adaptive Mesh Computations,” highlighting theoretical and computational developments in adaptive numerical schemes for PDEs.
Organized through the collaboration of the UP Office of the International Linkages and the UP Cebu Mathematics Program, the event seeks to promote international academic engagement and provide opportunities for students, faculty members, and researchers to learn from globally recognized experts in applied and computational mathematics.
