𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝘆𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝗤. 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶, former President of Tarlac State University and accreditor for the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), visited the Hannah W. Tibbs Writer’s Studio as part of her inspection of the university’s infrastructure and other learning resources during the CLSU Institutional Accreditation on July 2, 2025.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗹 𝗙. 𝗨𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗼, Project Leader and Chief of the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit under the International Affairs Office, briefed Dr. Mallari on the history, functions, and support services of the Hannah W. Tibbs Writer’s Studio.

As a gesture of support, she signed the visitor’s guest book, writing: "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙬𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙟𝙤𝙗 𝙞𝙣 𝙥𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 ‘𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡’ 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜.” She also noted the calm and inspiring ambiance of the studio, describing it as a space that fosters focus, creativity, and meaningful work.

Dr. Mallari praised the initiative for providing writing support services not only to the CLSU community but also to those outside the university, after hearing that external parties could also avail themselves of the Writers’ Studio’s services.

As part of her recommendation, Dr. Mallari suggested exploring additional paid services to ensure the Writers’ Studio’s sustainability and continued support for the academic community.

The Hannah W. Tibbs Writer’s Studio, an initiative of the International Affairs Office, was established through a USD 25,000 grant from the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, under its 2023 Academic Writing Center Support Funds Program.

The Hannah W. Tibbs Writers’ Studio through its project lead Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, conducted a technical writing lecture on July 7, 2025, for the first batch of senior high school students participating in the Youth Science Program in the Regions (Luzon), organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD).

The four-hour session, part of the Science Immersion Program (SIP) led by Dr. Melanie P. Tolentino, Director of the Center for Central Luzon Studies and professor at the Department of Social Sciences at CLSU, aimed to enhance students’ research capabilities. The lecture focused on evaluating credible academic references and mastering APA formatting and citation guidelines—key skills for effective scientific writing and communication.

As part of the session, students participated in a hands-on workshop where they practiced identifying retracted articles using databases. They analyzed retraction notices to understand the reasons for retractions, such as data falsification, plagiarism, or methodological errors, and evaluated the notices’ clarity and transparency.
Students also investigated whether retracted articles continued to be cited post-retraction, exploring the implications of such citations on the credibility of subsequent research.

He also introduced students to various citation management tools, such as Zotero, Mendeley, and EndNote, to help students organize references, generate citations and manage research materials efficiently.

The students also got the chance to visit the Writers’ Studio and even participate in the on-going study abroad session organized by CLSU alumni of various exchange programs. Additionally, the students received souvenirs from the Writers’ Studio.

The Science Immersion Program at CLSU, running from June 23 to July 11, 2025, brings together 25 Grade 11 and 12 students from various Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campuses across Luzon.
