Habang patuloy na tumataas ang pangangailangan para sa ligtas at de-kalidad na pagkain, lalong nagiging mahalaga ang pag-unawa sa mga panganib na maaaring magmula sa ating food production systems. Isa sa mga ito ang Salmonella—isang tahimik ngunit seryosong banta sa poultry production at food safety.

Sa ikatlong bahagi ng ating serye tungkol sa transboundary animal diseases, atin namang tatalakayin ang mahahalagang kaalaman tungkol sa Salmonella sa episode na "Crack the Facts: Understanding Salmonella for Safer Poultry Production and Improved Food Safety."

Makakasama natin si Dr. Marvin Bryan S. Salinas, Chief ng Diagnostics and Surveillance Division ng CenTrAD, upang ibahagi ang mahahalagang impormasyon tungkol sa Salmonella—kung ano ito, paano ito nakaaapekto sa poultry production, at anu-anong mga hakbang ang maaaring gawin ng mga magsasaka, stakeholders, at consumers upang mapanatiling ligtas ang ating pagkain at mapalakas ang industriya ng paghahayupan.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | 𝐂𝐋𝐒𝐔 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐏 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

CARRANGLAN, Nueva Ecija — Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through the Community Development Division of the University Extension Center (UEC), conducted an agricultural support activity benefiting 40 Indigenous Peoples (IP) farmer-beneficiaries under the Indigenous Peoples’ Livelihood Empowerment Advancement Project (IP-LEAP) of the CL-TechCare Program on June 4, 2026, in Barangay Joson, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.

The activity aimed to enhance agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of IP farming communities through the provision of agricultural inputs and the promotion of market development initiatives.

As part of the initiative, CLSU distributed 30 bags of fertilizer and 400 trays of vegetable seedlings to the farmer-beneficiaries. These agricultural inputs are expected to increase crop productivity, strengthen household food security, and promote sustainable farming practices.

Municipal Agriculturist Greg Alputan expressed his appreciation to CLSU for its continued support to IP communities. He also donated five kilograms of pole bean seeds and shared that the Municipality of Carranglan had provided sweet potato planting materials and other agricultural assistance to help improve farm productivity and food security.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Ma. Conception O. De Vera presented an overview of the IP-LEAP Project, highlighting its goal of empowering IP farmers through agricultural support, agro-enterprise development, and market linkage opportunities. She emphasized that the project seeks to help farmers become more productive, market-oriented, and self-reliant.

The activity highlighted the importance of integrating production support with market access to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for Indigenous farmers. Through the collaborative efforts of CLSU, the Local Government Unit of Carranglan, and the IP community, the IP-LEAP Project continues to advance inclusive agricultural development and rural empowerment.

MANILA, Philippines — Representatives from Central Luzon State University (CLSU) participated in the initial deliberation of a proposed measure seeking to institutionalize the Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement (BIDANI) as a national linkage program among State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). The hearing was conducted by the House Committee on Rural Development at the House of Representatives on May 19, 2026.

The CLSU delegation was composed of Dr. Eugenia G. Baltazar, Head of the Continuing Education Division; Ma. Concepcion O. De Vera, CLSU BIDANI Program Leader; and Fermina M. Macanas, Barangay Management Information System (BMIS) Project Leader.

The proposed bill seeks to establish a permanent framework and funding mechanism that will enable SUCs to sustain and expand community-based nutrition and rural development initiatives across the country. At CLSU, BIDANI is implemented under the Fit4Good Program of the University Extension Center (UEC), which promotes nutrition-sensitive and community-driven interventions aimed at improving the quality of life in local communities.

During the deliberation, Dr. Clarissa B. Juanico, BIDANI Program Leader and National Coordinator from University of the Philippines Los Baños, presented the program’s accomplishments, contributions of participating institutions, and policy recommendations supporting its institutionalization.

CLSU joined other SUCs in expressing support for the proposed legislation, including Isabela State University, Bicol University, Visayas State University, and Central Mindanao University.

Representatives from local government units and national government agencies also attended the hearing, including Jessica Belen and Jay Beltran. Their participation highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration among academe, government institutions, and local communities in advancing nutrition improvement and rural development efforts nationwide.

The proposed institutionalization of BIDANI is expected to further enhance the role of SUCs in delivering responsive extension programs that address nutrition challenges, strengthen local governance, and contribute to sustainable community development.
