Faculty members and staff from Columban CollegeโAsinan and Barretto Campuses gathered for a Faculty Seminar organized by the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HAMDO), under the leadership of Dr. Rafael Mora. The seminar served as a meaningful avenue for professional development, equipping educators with updated policies, innovative educational practices, and strategies to foster a more inclusive and productive learning environment.
The program was hosted by Dr. Edrian Laxamana, Elem/JHS Coprdinator of Columban CollegeโAsinan, while Mrs. Loida Cabiara of Columban CollegeโBarretto led the opening prayer. The singing of the National Anthem and the Columban Hymn was facilitated by Dr. Jerome Dannielle Uy, Science Coordinator.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Eric Matriano, Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services, emphasized that educators must continuously strive to make their work productive, meaningful, and enriching, not only for themselves but also for the students they serve.
The seminar commenced with a discussion on the Three-Term School Calendar, presented by Dr. Eleanor C. Cayabyab, Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division. She explained the rationale behind the transition, highlighting its potential benefits in improving instructional delivery, maximizing learning time, and creating a more balanced academic schedule for both teachers and students. The session underscored the importance of adaptability as educational institutions respond to evolving educational demands.
The second talk focused on DepEd Order No. 6, s. 2026: Safe and Motivating Learning Environment, delivered by Mr. Ricardo E. Ednave, Schools Governance and Operations Division Chief, and Ms. Marsha F. Mojica, Division Guidance Coordinator III. The speakers emphasized the collective responsibility of school stakeholders in cultivating school environments that are safe, supportive, and conducive to learning. They highlighted the significance of promoting learnersโ well-being, safeguarding their rights, and implementing proactive interventions that foster positive behavior and emotional security within schools.
Addressing the growing need for equitable education, Ms. Nikka L. Ibay, Special Education Teacher III, delivered a compelling presentation on The Fundamental Principles of Inclusive Education. She stressed that inclusivity extends beyond physical access to classrooms and involves creating learning experiences where every student, regardless of ability, background, or circumstance, feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Her presentation reinforced the idea that diversity is a strength that enriches the educational community.
The fourth session, entitled Teaching Responsibility: Discipline Beyond Punishment, was presented by Atty. Gene Vincent G. Perez, Attorney III of the Legal Unit. He encouraged educators to rethink traditional disciplinary approaches by prioritizing accountability, restorative practices, and character formation over punitive measures. He emphasized that discipline should be a teaching opportunity that guides students toward responsible decision-making and personal growth rather than merely imposing consequences.
The seminar concluded with an inspirational message from Rev. Fr. Eric E. Dela Cruz, School President and Chief Inspiration Officer. He underscored the importance of protecting teachers from delinquent student behavior while maintaining a compassionate and balanced approach to education. He reminded educators that teacher welfare is essential in sustaining a healthy and effective learning environment.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Christine Gil O. Almazan, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services, reminded educators that teaching remains one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences a person can have. He encouraged faculty members to remain committed to their vocation despite the challenges they may encounter and to continue serving with passion, resilience, and dedication. He also urged everyone to apply the valuable insights and takeaways from the seminar in the โbattlefieldโ of educationโthe classrooms and learning environments where teachers make a lasting impact on studentsโ lives every day.
The Faculty Seminar successfully reinforced Columban Collegeโs commitment to empowering educators, promoting inclusive and safe learning spaces, and nurturing a culture of responsibility, collaboration, and excellence across its academic community. The program concluded with a closing prayer led by Mrs. Judith S.
