Palompon Institute of Technology The Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) is a state college in the municipality of Palompon, Leyte Veloso of the 3rd District of Leyte.

The Palompon Institute of Technology was established in June 18, 1961. The operation started on 1964 as the Palompon School of Arts and Trades (PSAT) through House Bill 1105, otherwise known as RA 3394, authored by then Congressman Marcelino R. As provided for in the said act, PSAT functioned as a secondary trade school under the Bureau of Vocational and offered only the 4-year secondary trade curriculum...
PIT reinvented itself and moved to become a modern Institution with improved facilities, refurbished buildings, adopted the Institute’s automation system, and instrumental for the passing of Level III accreditation by AACCUP of four curricular programs and the newly accredited Level 1 for BS In Information Technology and BS in Industrial Engineering. Additional courses were offered such as Bachelor Arts in Communication, Bachelor of Science in Hotel & Restaurant Management specializing in Cruise Ship Management, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering & Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and more. Under Dr. Combista’s guidance and direction, PIT continued to forge ahead to meet the challenges like supertyphoon Haiyan and prospects of the future. The bill to convert PIT into a university was approved last June 4, 2013 by President Aquino III. It was sponsored by Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez. However, there were still CHED’s requirements to be satisfied, and complied before January 2016 to become a full-fledged university to be known as PALOMPON POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY (PPSU).

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | The energy, excitement, and vibrant spirit of sportsmanship filled the PIT Oval Grounds on October 26 as the Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) officially commenced 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐒 2026. Bringing together students, faculty members, and the entire academic community, the opening ceremony marked the beginning of a week-long celebration of athletic excellence, camaraderie, teamwork, and college pride.

The opening ceremony featured the unveiling of banners representing the different colleges, showcasing the identity, pride, and unity of each participating academic unit. The Lighting of the Urn followed, signifying the enduring flame of passion, perseverance, and the competitive spirit that inspires every student-athlete. Adding to the celebration was the Unity Dance, which embodied solidarity and the shared commitment of the PIT community to excellence and fellowship.

PIT also warmly welcomed its guest speaker, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐞𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚, a retired professional basketball player who played his entire career in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He delivered an inspiring message to the student-athletes, encouraging them to embrace the experience, enjoy the moment, and make the most of their participation in the intramurals. He emphasized the importance of balancing competitiveness with character, reminding everyone:

"𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒅𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔, 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒆𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏."

His message underscored the value of sports not only as a platform for demonstrating athletic abilities but also as an avenue for developing discipline, resilience, respect, and a strong sense of responsibility.

The ceremony culminated with a welcome message by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐇𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐫 𝐃. 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐨, Sports Coordinator, who warmly greeted the participants and set the tone for the week-long celebration. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐍𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐍. 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞, Vice President for Academic Affairs, then formally signaled the start of the much-anticipated intramural activities.

Immediately following the opening ceremony was the Bench Yell Competition, where the participating colleges showcased their distinctive cheers, creativity, coordination, and enthusiasm. Each contingent brought energy and pride to the PIT Oval Grounds, setting an exciting tone for the days of friendly competition ahead.

With the theme of unity reflected in every cheer, every performance, and every display of determination, SIGLAKAS 2026 goes beyond the boundaries of sports. It celebrates the holistic development of students, strengthens friendships across colleges, and reinforces the values of discipline, leadership, resilience, and sportsmanship that are integral to the PIT community.
