During the Q&A portion of Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2026, Heartly Lee Maribao, a COT candidate, delivered a message that resonated far beyond the stageโone rooted in equality, dignity, and unity within the academic community.
In a diverse environment where students come from different programs and pursue different paths, these differences should never be used as a basis for judgment or division. Instead, they should be celebrated as a reflection of the many ways individuals can grow, contribute, and succeed. Yet, the reality remains that some students are still looked down upon simply because of their chosen fieldโan issue that quietly weakens the sense of community within the school.
Heartly emphasized that no student should ever feel lesser because of their program. Education is not a hierarchy of worth, but a shared journey toward knowledge and purpose. Whether one is in technology, education, or any other discipline, each path holds equal value and deserves equal respect.
Her words serve as a powerful reminder that the true essence of a strong institution lies not only in academic excellence, but in the character of its people. When students choose respect over comparison and kindness over judgment, they create a space where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered.
In the end, her message is clear: a personโs worth is not defined by their program, but by how they treat others. And by choosing respect, we donโt just uplift individualsโwe strengthen the entire community.
