Wanderlust Cravings A Comeback Worth the Wait

After a long pause from the usual food trails, the return comes with a plate full of excitement, thanks to the latest menu offerings from Wanderlust. And honestly, it feels like coming back at just the right time.

First to steal the spotlight are their pizzas. These are not just your typical slices. They are the kind that instantly answer your cravings the moment they hit the table. The Four Cheese, Pepperoni Pizza, and Inasal Chicken Pizza each bring their own personality, but all share one thing in common: bold, satisfying flavor in every bite. The thin crust strikes a beautiful balance, lightly crisp underneath with just enough chew to hold everything together. It is the kind of texture that makes you keep reaching for another slice without even thinking twice.

Pair it with their signature Wanderlust Sunset cocktail, and suddenly it becomes more than just a meal. It becomes a full experience.

Then comes the surprise favorite, the Salmon Carbonara Pasta. Creamy, cheesy, and generously topped with salmon fillet, this dish hits that sweet spot between indulgent and comforting. There is a mild spice that quietly builds, giving it depth without overpowering the richness. It is smooth, flavorful, and honestly, super sarap.

Wanderlust did not just update its menu. They elevated it. And if this is what coming back tastes like, then it was definitely worth the wait.

PROMO Buy 1, take 1 cocktails every day until April 31, 2026

Roasting Roots: Where Craft Meets Community at the 2025 Coffee Roaster's Forum

By Aldex Tan | Eat Lokal Philippines

This September 27, coffee lovers and curious creatives will gather in Cagayan de Oro for an event that promises to brew more than just great coffee. Held at Lifeline Coffee Brewers in Tomasaco, Macasandig, the 2025 Coffee Roaster’s Forum will run from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM and is open to the public for ₱950.00 per head. But more than a seat at a workshop, this ticket will offer access to a thoughtful, flavor-filled conversation between two of the country’s most respected roasters.

Leading the session will be Sly Samonte, head roaster of Palawan’s Lost Island Center for Kape (LICK) and 2018 Fire & Gas International Roasting Champion, alongside Joefel Manlod, the brain and palate behind Purge Coffee Roasters in Davao. Together, they’ll unpack not just how coffee is roasted in the Philippines—but why roasting with purpose matters now more than ever.

☕ A Taste of What’s to Come

Attendees can expect live demonstrations, guided tastings, and a deep dive into roast profiling. Samonte will likely bring a citrus-forward roast with hints of calamansi and honey—a bright, layered cup reflecting Palawan’s sun-soaked terroir. In contrast, Manlod is expected to present a bolder, darker roast grounded in Davao’s signature chocolatey depth and nutty finish.

The beauty will be in the contrast: two cups, two philosophies, and two stories told through roast curves and sourcing choices.

🌿 Brewing Beyond the Bean

Both roasters are known for their commitment to sustainable coffee—not as a marketing term, but as a guiding principle. Sly is expected to share insights into the realities of running a roastery in Palawan, where logistics are as wild as the landscape. Joefel, on the other hand, will explore the challenges of scaling ethically in Davao, ensuring farmer partnerships and transparency stay central as his brand grows.

The forum will go beyond flavor—it will unpack the invisible decisions behind every roast: climate-conscious operations, traceable supply chains, and a deeper respect for Filipino-grown coffee.

🎤 The Verdict (Coming Soon)

On September 27, the Coffee Roaster’s Forum will remind us that roasting is more than heat and timing—it’s storytelling in every cup.

🔍 Must-Try Preview

Davao visitors should watch for Purge Coffee Roasters’ dark roast blend—a natural partner to buttery ensaymada or dark tsokolate cake. Those heading to Palawan must try LICK’s medium roast, a citrus-zested bean that pairs beautifully with cashew tarts or plain pandesal.

"Chef Jason’s Kwentong Vino"

Some chefs cook; others create experiences. Chef Jason Feeney-Cruz belongs to the latter. With over 23 years in the culinary world—sharpening his knives in prestigious restaurants, hotels, and resorts across the Philippines and abroad—he has returned to Palawan, not just to cook, but to tell stories through food.

His latest masterpiece is Luiz Osteria Italian Restoranté, where Italian flavors dance with Palawan’s local bounty. Think sun-dried tomatoes meeting island-caught seafood, or handmade pasta kissed with the freshness of local herbs. Here, sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a philosophy.

Now, Chef Jason is turning another page with Kwentong Vino, a collaboration with Palawan Wines, happening on September 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. For just ₱1,500 per person, guests can savor a curated Italian wine tasting paired with thoughtfully crafted bites. Every sip tells a story of tradition, while every bite carries Chef Jason’s signature innovation.

Strictly by reservation only, this event isn’t just a tasting—it’s a journey. Imagine swirling a glass of Chianti while nibbling on crostini topped with locally sourced ingredients, captured perfectly on your Insta360 as the golden Palawan light streams in.

So if you’ve ever dreamed of a Tuscan escape but your passport says otherwise, Kwentong Vino might just be your ticket—right here in Puerto Princesa. DM or call (0954) 220 7003 to book your spot before the seats run dry.

Sometimes we spoil the quality of our meal because we always tend to watch other people enjoying theirs. Always remember that the value of our plates will depend on the effort we put into achieving it.

It's great to experience a restaurant on its anniversary day. We had the privilege of trying Wankuk Restaurant for the first time and really enjoyed it. This restaurant offers Asian Cuisine that is affordable and delicious and will make us come back for more. The only challenge was the parking space, and we are looking forward to seeing them in a better location with parking spaces.

Check their page Wankuk Restaurant for more information.

The Fat Goat is one of the best finds to dine in Puerto Princesa that many foreign tourist enjoyed their food experience. Their English Breakfast is packed with homemade Smoked Bacon and Italian Sausages, baked beans, pan-grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, sliced bread, and eggs. Next is the BLT that highlights the smokey flavor of the bacon. Both meals were delightfully good, and we found out that most of their veggies came from their farm.

You can visit their restaurant at Manalo St. Puerto Princesa City and check out their page, The Fat Goat.

Burger and Fried Chicken are two of the favorite comfort foods of many people, in Puerto Princesa City there's a place called NomNom Comfort Food where humor is one of the recipes of their restaurant. On our visit, we tried their NomNom Juicy Burger and I think there is still an opportunity to make it greater especially with its price of 424 pesos for the set meal. Another bestseller that we had was their Cheesy Chix, fried chicken wings coated with Parmesan cheese. We look forward to seeing this burger joint in Puerto Princesa be more successful.

For more information please visit their page NomNom Comfort Food.

"Above the Clouds with Good Earth Chocolate"
Reviewed by Eat Lokal Ph mystery shoppers & written by Aldex Tan

Some chocolates make you smile, and then some chocolates make you feel like you’ve stepped on a fluffy cloud drifting over El Nido’s limestone cliffs. That’s the kind of high you get when you bite into Good Earth Chocolate—a homegrown creation from the small but mighty town of El Nido, Palawan.

Crafted with care, each bar is more than just a sweet treat. It’s a love letter to Filipino cacao and proof that excellence doesn’t always come from the world’s capitals—it can bloom right in our islands. Smooth, rich, and balanced, these chocolates carry just enough sweetness to keep you coming back, yet retain a depth that whispers, “this is the Philippines on a plate.”

What makes Good Earth Chocolate stand out is not just the taste—it’s the story. In a place better known for turquoise lagoons and white-sand beaches, a rising chocolate star is claiming its space. Tourists leave with photos, but locals now have something more enduring to share: artisanal chocolate that’s destined for global acclaim.

You can find them in charming corners of El Nido—Gusto Branches, Tales of the Islands, Hayahay Cafe, and even at The Cafe in Lio Airport, ready to greet you pre-flight. In Puerto Princesa, a sweet stop awaits at Butterfly Garden. Wherever you discover it, the experience remains the same—cloud-nine indulgence wrapped in locally crafted pride.

This is the kind of treat you’d want to capture on your Insta360 as you unwrap it by the beach. Because really, when chocolate this good meets a paradise this pretty, it deserves to be shown off.

So the next time you’re in Palawan, skip the usual pasalubong and take home a bite of the island’s rising star. Trust us—your taste buds will thank you, and your friends will envy you.

"When Squid Meets Crunch: Baker’s Mill Eats & Treats"
Reviewed & written by Aldex Tan

Another day, another bite into something that sparks debate at the dining table. This time, it’s in Mandaue City, Cebu, where Baker’s Mill has been quietly making waves with their quirky yet unforgettable offerings: Baked Squid Flakes and Sesame Squid.

At first crunch, the Baked Squid Flakes deliver a satisfying crisp, almost like a savory chip kissed by the sea breeze. Salty, yes—but in just the right measure to wake up your palate. Toss it over hot congee, sprinkle on takoyaki, or sneak it into fried rice, and you’ve got yourself an instant upgrade that even Knorr chefs would applaud.

The Sesame Squid, however, is where the flavor adventure turns bolder. With a jerky-like chew, its intense saltiness can be a shock at first bite. On its own, it’s not for everyone, but pair it with a steaming bowl of rice, and suddenly it transforms into that guilty pleasure you keep reaching for when no one’s looking.

What makes these treats special is their versatility. They’re not just pasalubong curiosities; they’re culinary sidekicks waiting to surprise your everyday dishes. Imagine whipping up a simple omelet and leveling it up with squid flakes—suddenly, breakfast feels like a playful experiment.

Travelers can easily pick up a pack at Cebu’s pasalubong centers, airport terminal shops, or major city hubs like SM Supermarkets. While Baker’s Mill may be elusive online, you can check out their product family through Profood Corporation’s page: https://www.facebook.com/profoodcorp

So, the next time you’re in Cebu and craving a pasalubong that’s crunchy, chewy, salty, and full of character, take a leap with Baker’s Mill squid snacks. They may not be for everyone—but that’s exactly what makes them worth trying.
