The 4th-year students of the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) gathered at the PSU Amphitheater on August 6, 2026, for a Gender and Development (GAD) Symposium with the theme, โ€œEmpowering University Students as Champions of Gender Equality.โ€ The symposium, organized by the City Administration of Puerto Princesa City in collaboration with Palawan State University, aimed to strengthen studentsโ€™ understanding of gender equality, respect, and safe spaces through meaningful discussions on issues they may encounter in their personal lives and future professional careers.

The program featured discussions on GAD Basic Concepts led by Ms. Pearl Binondo, followed by a discussion on Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act, presented by Atty. Julia Cuevas. The session highlighted situations involving gender-based sexual harassment, including when certain words, actions, or behavior may already constitute disrespect or harassment, as well as the importance of knowing when and where individuals can report such incidents. The symposium also included a discussion on Gender Sensitivity in Law Enforcement, led by the City PNP, emphasizing the importance of gender-sensitive and respectful practices in the field of law enforcement.

The open forum provided students with an opportunity to exchange ideas, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of gender equality, rights, and responsibilities. The symposium emphasized that building safe and inclusive communities starts with awareness, respect, and responsible action, values that the 4th-year CCJE students are encouraged to uphold as future public servants and law enforcement professionals.

Awareness matters. Respect matters. Equality starts with us.
