The UP Open University Faculty of Information and Communication Studies launched “Age-Friendly Mauban” program on 15 October 2026 with the local government, Mauban eLearningVille, and Quezon Power to promote digital inclusion among senior citizens through digital literacy training on everyday technology, online safety, and lifelong learning, helping build a community where older adults remain connected, empowered, and engaged.

Mauban, Quezon is the first model community under UPOU FICS’ “Age-Friendly Community” initiative. ⭐

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) launched “Age-Friendly Mauban,” in partnership with the Municipal Government of Mauban, Mauban eLearningVille, and Quezon Power (Philippines), Limited Co. - San Buenaventura Power Ltd., Co. (QPL-SBPL), on 15 October 2026 at the Mauban Municipal Hall.

The UP Visayas Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod (OCEP), in partnership with the Bana-ag Iloilo Youth Coalition and A-PAD Philippines, trained 31 young leaders and sectoral partners in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and participatory risk assessment during the “Manguna Kita” learning session on 17 October 2026 to strengthen youth participation in disaster preparedness, risk-informed governance, and community resilience.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: In the Philippine uplands, the tension between commercial agriculture and indigenous land stewardship poses serious socio-ecological challenges. Grounded in the framework of integral ecology, this presentation reflects on the journey of the Bukidnon Pulangiyen along the Upper Pulangi River and the educational initiatives of the Apu Palamguwan Cultural Education Center (APC) alongside ESSC. Dr. Ignacio discusses how integrating indigenous cultural knowledge with science education equips marginalized youth to foster sustainable livelihoods, manage natural resources, and protect their ancestral domain.
