CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2026 GAWAD TSANSELOR SA NATATANGING G**O

In line with the upcoming celebration of the 2026 Linggo ng Parangal, we are disseminating the criteria and nomination form for the 2026 Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging G**o. The reckoning period of accomplishments is from AY 2022-2023 to AY 2024-2025.

The Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging G**o has been awarded since 1995. The award recognizes faculty members who have outstanding accomplishments, and consistently demonstrated honor and excellence, in teaching, research and public service.

We urge all colleges and units to make their local searches and nominate any number of their deserving faculty members, provided every nominee is endorsed by the Dean/Director/Unit Head. Any faculty member may nominate to their Dean/Director/Unit
Head their candidate for the final endorsement at the unit level. We provide a distribution of the number of previous awardees by college/unit in the Annex for your information.

The primary criteria for the evaluation of the nominees are based on:

● a 1,500-word statement of the nominee’s teaching philosophy (How do you apply diversity, equity, and inclusion as a UP Professor?)
● summary and evidence of milestone accomplishments in teaching, research, and public service that illustrate how the nominee's teaching philosophy is practiced.

The eligibility criteria for the 2026 Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging G**o award are as follows:

● The nominee must be a tenured faculty member or in a long-term contract *(for international faculty*)
● The nominee must not have been a recipient of the Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging G**o in the last three years (i.e., 2023, 2024 and 2025).
● Within AY 2022-2023 to AY 2024-2025, the nominee must have:

○ Rendered continuous teaching service in UP Diliman, with a teaching load credit (TLC) of at least six (6) units per semester for semestral programs or four (4) units per term for trimestral programs; and,
○ Obtained a weighted average SET score per term of 4.0 or better for AY 2023-2024 to AY 2024-2025 only.
○ accomplished ANY one of the following:
○ Published an article in a refereed journal;
○ Published a refereed book published by a local/international academic publisher;
○ Published a refereed book chapter published by a local/international academic publisher;
○ Staged a juried exhibit/ curated work in a local/international venue;
○ Staged a juried performance/ creative work output staged in a local/international venue; or
○ Produced a patent/peer-reviewed design.
○ rendered service to ANY of the following, for each academic year:
* The University
* The nation
* The global community

● Nominee must not have been found guilty of administrative or criminal offense. In case the nominee has a pending administrative or criminal case, there should be no adverse judgment/ruling with finality on said case at the time of the granting of the award.

2. Duly accomplished nomination form; and
3. Complete documents for entries in the nomination form.

The Office for the Advancement of Teaching extends its sincere appreciation to all UP Diliman faculty members who participated in the face-to-face workshop, “Programming Fundamentals for Data Analytics with R,” conducted on 24 November 2025 and 1 December 2025.

We also express our gratitude to Asst. Prof. Xavier Javines Bilon, ECE, Director for Research of the UP School of Statistics and faculty member of the UP Diliman School of Statistics, for serving as the resource speaker and facilitator and for generously sharing his expertise in the R programming language.

Our thanks as well to the UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI) for providing the venue at Room 302.

The Office for the Advancement of Teaching (OAT-OVCAA) will be conducting the first run of the Teaching Effectiveness Course (TEC): Fundamentals of University Teaching on January 12, 13, 14, and 15, 2026. The venue will be announced later.

The TEC aims to support new and seasoned UPD faculty members, teaching assistants, and lecturers who wish to upgrade or strengthen their teaching competencies. This initiative is part of UP Diliman’s continuing commitment to nurturing a community of academics who uphold and advance the University’s tradition of excellence.

All TEC sessions will run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The course is free of charge, but pre-registration is required due to limited slots. We can accommodate a maximum of 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to individuals who express clear interest and commitment to completing the entire 4-day training. Once the 50 slots have been filled, additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified if a slot becomes available.

Participants will be provided with lunch, snacks, and a course kit. A certificate will be awarded to those who complete the 4-day course and submit all required outputs. A performance report will also be forwarded to the head of the unit at the end of the program.

On November 17, 2025, we had the privilege of engaging in a benchmarking activity with Eastern Visayas State University, led by Dr. Valentine Blez Lampayan, Director of the Curriculum and Instructional Materials Development Office.

The meeting provided OAT and EVSU with the opportunity to discuss curriculum planning and development, learning continuity planning, AI policy, syllabus preparation, instructional materials development, and sustainability plans in curriculum development.

The Office for the Advancement of Teaching (OAT) invites all UP Diliman faculty members to participate in the face-to-face workshop “Programming Fundamentals for Data Analytics with R,” which will be held on the following dates:

● November 24, 2025 (1:00 PM–5:00 PM)
● December 1, 2025 (10:00 AM–5:00 PM)

This workshop is for faculty teaching quantitative courses.

The workshop will take place at Room 302, UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI). This training workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of programming, with a particular
focus on applications in data analytics. The R programming language will be used throughout the workshop.

The resource speaker and facilitator for this training is Asst. Prof. Xavier Javines Bilon, ECE, Director for Research of the UP School of Statistics and faculty member of the UP Diliman School of Statistics.

SET ANSWERING FOR FIRST SEMESTER A.Y. 2025-2026

Please note that the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) Answering Module in the Computerized Registration System (CRS) will be open from November 10 to December 5, 2025
only. This applies to all units except the MBA and MS Finance programs of the Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business, the Master of Management (MM), and Master in Governance and Innovative
Leadership (MGIL) programs of UPDEPP/O, PM-TMEM, and UPSA.

Priority Tagging Policy:
Students may accomplish the SET by logging into their CRS accounts and clicking on the “SET Answering Module.” Those who fail to answer the SET will be tagged as "low priority" in the
next term's pre-enlistment, and under the following conditions:

● Students who did not accomplish the SET for the first semester will be given low priority in the second semester;

● Students who did not accomplish the SET for the second semester will be given low priority in the first semester of the following academic year;

● Students who enrolled during the midyear and did not accomplish the midyear SET will be given low priority in the first semester of the succeeding academic year;

● MBA students who fail to answer the SET will be delayed for 1 hour in the next term's real-time enlistment.

Note that the evaluation of the teaching performance of teaching fellows and teaching associates (TFs/TAs) should also be conducted during the period stated above via CRS (if available).

The results of the SET for First Semester AY 2025 - 2026 will be used for developmental purposes (e.g., improving online/remote teaching and learning) and for decision-making purposes
(e.g., faculty promotions, awards, tenure, and appointments.)

We request all units to inform their faculty members regarding the online SET, and the faculty members, in turn, to actively encourage their students (both undergraduate and graduate) to
accomplish the SET carefully and regularly.

The Office for the Advancement of Teaching expresses its heartfelt appreciation to all the UP Diliman faculty and REPS who joined us at the “Finding Calm and Purpose in Stressful Times” workshop, held at the Museum of Filipino Architecture (MOFA), College of Architecture, UP Diliman on October 27, 2025. We would also like to thank our amazing facilitator, Ms. Mary Janneke “NEX” Agustin from the UP Diliman College of Human Kinetics, for making it a truly enriching experience.

This workshop is a vital part of the Kalinga Hubs (K-Hubs) initiative, continuing its mission to provide a safe and supportive space for our teaching community to nurture well-being, connection, and personal growth.
