On April 15, 2026, agriculturists Mr. Edmond N. Odon and Ms. Gina C. Regis from the This significant learning activity was attended by ๐๐’ ๐€๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž students to provide hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom in the field of soil analysis.

The first activity was a lecture on soil sampling delivered by Mr. Edmond N. Odon, an alumnus of the program. In his lecture, he emphasized the importance of proper soil sampling, the key considerations before collecting soil samples, and the correct procedures for sample collection. This was followed by an actual demonstration of soil sampling outside the venue, allowing students to observe the process firsthand.

Afterward, Ms. Gina C. Regis delivered a lecture on soil analysis using the Soil-Test Kit (STK) technology developed by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM). Her lecture covered the proper handling of the STK, including soil sample preparation, safe handling of the chemicals used in analysis, interpretation of results, and the use of the BSWM FertRight mobile application, which generates accurate and science-based fertilizer recommendations based on soil test kit results. A demonstration and hands-on activity followed, with active participation from both students and faculty members of the program. Participants were also given the opportunity to present and discuss their findings.

One of the main highlights of the event was the turnover of Soil Test Kits for use in analyzing soils cultivated by farmers within the university vicinity. Present during this part of the program was Dr. Eduardo Cablao Jr., Campus Administrator, who witnessed the formal turnover of the equipment that will support future soil testing initiatives in the community.

The practice of proper soil sampling and soil analysis is essential in agriculture, particularly for farmers. Accurate soil testing provides location-specific fertilizer recommendations that help prevent the overapplication of fertilizers, reduce unnecessary production costs, and improve farm income. More importantly, it contributes to the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices by ensuring that soil nutrients are managed efficiently and responsibly.
