In light of CHED Memo No. 117, Series of 2026 and the ongoing national energy emergency, the RSU Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services is evaluating our implementation of flexible learning modality. Students' feedback on the current 4-day onsite schedule and a potential shift to 100% online classes is vital to support the administration's decision-making and to ensure student welfare and academic success.

All students of Romblon State University are hereby advised to accomplish this survey.

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ”ฌ Project 2: Biological Assessment of Sibuyan Stock : Insights on Population Dynamics and Reproduction for Sustainable Fisheries through Dr. Karen A. Villarta-Lane as Project Leader is officially commenced with a ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ“Š Comprehensive Market Survey to identify priority landing sites and key pelagic fish species for monitoring.

This baseline initiative supports a one-year scientific assessment of population dynamics and reproductive biology, generating robust data for sustainable fisheries management in the Sibuyan Sea.

๐Ÿ“ˆ The study aims to deliver science-based policy recommendations for Local Government Units (LGUs)โ€”strengthening fisheries governance, conservation strategies, and long-term food security.

๐Ÿค This collaborative research is led by University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), Visayas State University (VSU), and Romblon State University (RSU), with funding support from Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

๐ŸŒฑ We encourage aspiring marine biology and fisheries students to pursue field-based, interdisciplinary research that connects science, policy, and sustainable ocean stewardship.

The faculty members of Fisheries and Marine Biology joined the conduct of a focus group discussion (FGD) and key informant interviews (KII) with the fisher communities fishing in the South Sibuyan Sea (SSS). This is part of the SSS Symphony program funded by the DOST.

The activities were led by the Visayas State University (VSU) led by Dr. Donna Guarte-Valida and University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) led by Dr. Cristy Acabado in collaboration with Romblon State University (RSU).

Through these engagements, researchers gathered valuable insights into the fishing gears employed, the composition of fish catches, and the specific locations of fishing grounds. This data is critically important for understanding the intricate dynamics of marine ecosystems, enabling informed strategies for sustainable resource management and biodiversity conservation in this vital area.

Stay tuned for more updates!

To advance the sustainable management of Sibuyan Sea resources, the University of the Philippines - Visayas (UPV) and Visayas State University (VSU) are collaborating with Romblon State University (RSU) on the DOST-GIA-funded research program titled "Sibuyan Sea Symphony: Exploring Pelagic Ecosystems and Fisheries Dynamics." A strategic meeting was held on February 5, 2026, at VSU in Baybay City to delineate program directions and ensure seamless implementation through 2027.

Representatives from the Marine Biology Department of RSU San Agustin included Vincent Jay Gado and Jeniel Santos, accompanied by Randy Gallano from Sta. Fe Campus.

We extend our profound gratitude for the unwavering support from RSU's leadership, which has been instrumental in realizing this initiative: President Prof. Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, Vice President for Research, Extension, Development, and Innovation Prof. Dr. Eddie G. Fetalvero, Director for Research, Development, and Innovation Dr. Garry Vanz Blancia, Campus Director of San Agustin Dr. Poly D. Banagan, Campus Director of Sta. Fe Dr. Rey P. Rasgo, and Campus Research Chairpersons Mary Ann Gallos (San Agustin) and Miguel Visca (Sta. Fe).

We also convey our deepest appreciation to Ms. Hiecel Dalisay for her patience in our documentary follow-ups.
