UCU BADANG: Brigada Eskwela Project 2023

As a continuous service of the BADANG: Brigada Eskwela, another successful project for this year 2023 was once again conducted by the Urdaneta City University. Through the wholistic efforts made by the University students, teaching and non-teaching personnel, partner stakeholders, and outside donors, the (a) Gamit Eskwela Para sa Bata, (b) Clean-up Drive, and (c) Pagbasa activities were held at 13 schools successfully.

A total of 660 school packs were given to students from Kinder, and Grades 1-6 of the 10 adopted elementary schools of UCU. Each school pack contained various school supplies like pad papers, ballpens, notebooks, crayons, pencils, eraser, and plastic envelope. While 18 reams of coupon bond papers were given to the 3 adopted secondary schools. With an approval from Dr. Aguedo Fernandez, the Schools Division Superintendent of Urdaneta City, the BADANG Brigada Eskwela was conducted simultaneously from August 7-11, 2023.

This project shows the unity and support of everyone which is the essence of the word "BADANG" - "to help/assist".

UCU BADANG: Bayanihan Sa Unibersidad Para sa Malinis na Pasilidad Year 2

Spearheaded by the UCU-CCDES and Badang The Volunteers, the yearly clean-up drive project was conducted again this 2023 to prepare campus rooms and facilities for the upcoming opening of classes.

The kick-off program was participated by various Colleges and Departments, UCU Student Council and UCU Student Organizations, UCU Kaagapay Riders, and partner stakeholders - Pangasinan 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and Every Nation Campus Ministry.

A warm-up Zumba session was held before starting the short program, to boost the energy and enthusiasm of the student volunteers, teaching and non-teaching personnel, and partner stakeholders. Cleaning at the designated areas, followed right after the short program.

BADANG: Adopt-a-School Project 2023

As part of the successful BADANG: Brigada Eskwela Project 2022 of the Urdaneta City University, the Center for Community Development and Extension Services (CCDES) conceptualized the Adopt-a-School Project.

The Adopt-a-School Project aims to provide support and assistance to a larger number of schools in Urdaneta City. From its previous adopted three (3) schools, an addition of ten (10) more schools was decided. A Memorandum of Agreement was initiated in the 13 barangays of Urdaneta City for the continuous implementation of various activities to be provided by the adoptive college/department, addressing the health, education, arts, and livelihood needs of the school and community. The said project was also coordinated with the Department of Education - Schools Division Office of Urdaneta City.
The following are the list of schools who inked an agreement with the University thru adoptive Colleges and Departments:
1. Tiposu Elementary School -- College of Arts and Sciences
2. Labit West Elementary School -- College of Business Management and Accountancy
3. Palina East National High School -- College of Criminal Justice Education
4. Don Amadeo Perez Sr. Memorial Central School (DAPSMECS) Annex -- College of Engineering and Architecture
5. Camanang Elementary School -- College of Health Sciences
6. Don Clemente Blanco Memorial Elementary School (DCBMES) -- College of Hospitality and Tourism Management
7. Sta. Lucia Elementary School -- College Human Sciences
8. Labit National High School -- College of Information and Technology Education
9. Oltama Elementary School -- College of Pharmacy
10. Bactad Community School -- College of Teacher Education
11. San Jose Leet Integrated School -- NSTP Dept. and Technical Vocational Institute
12. Cabaruan Elementary School -- Psychological Assessment and Counseling Center (PACC) & Dr. Pedro T. Orata Library
13. Cabaruan National High School -- CCDES

Thru the Adopt-a-School Project, schools will receive extension and outreach programs from the BADANG: Brigada Eskwela's (a) Clean-up Drive, (b) Gamit Eskwela Para sa Bata, and (c) Pagbasa at Pagsulat.

After a year of different workshops, seminars and activities provided by various Colleges/Departments of UCU, the PTO Project held its closing and recognition day for its 14 student beneficiaries namely:

During the recognition program Certificates of Completion were given to all beneficiaries, and 5 incoming freshmen were awarded scholarships/financial assistance which was sponsored by the UCU Alumni Association Inc.
Adoptive Colleges and Departments of each student beneficiaries also gave presents as a remembrance and a token for graduating from the PTO Program. Extension Coordinators, personnel from UCU Alumni Association Inc., UCU Personnel Association, Chaplain's Office, and Sugcong Barangay Council were present during the activity.

"PASINAYA PARA KAY LOLO AT LOLA Year 3"

180 selected Senior Citizens from Brgy. Sugcong, Oltama and Cabaruan, Urdaneta City gathered at Cabaruan Elementary School for the "Pasinaya" or "Pagpapasaya" for the Lolos and Lolas, a gift giving event held annually especially for the Senior Citizens. On its third year, along with the gift giving, Ucu Orata Chamber Singers were invited to serenade and entertain the Lolos and Lolas.
During the event apart from the gift packs given (containing toiletries, spaghetti pack, biscuits, instant coffee and powdered milk), 14 lucky winners during the raffle draw also received cash gifts.

Through the event, senior citizens felt happy and valued as they were remembered again.
This event wouldn't have been possible if not for the generous donations and joint efforts from the students and employees of UCU, and donors outside the university.

UCU Bayanihan sa Unibersidad: Para sa Malinis na Pasilidad

A clean-up drive activity was conducted by the teaching and non-teaching personnel of the different Colleges and Departments of the Urdaneta City University before the classes started last Sept. 19, 2022. Along with the University's personnel, the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Army Reservists, Every Nation Campus Ministry, and the University's different student organizations also participated.

A short program graced by the OICs of the VP for Academic Affairs and VP for Administrative Affairs was held. Along with them are the Deans, and Extension Coordinators of the different Colleges and Departments, the UCUPA President and Officers from the Pangasinan 2nd PMFC. In the first phase of the Bayanihan sa Unibersidad, the UCU Drum and Bugle Corps gave a stellar performance during the short program. In the latter phase, a zumba session, headed by the faculty and students of the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) was undertaken. This is in order to boost the energy of the participants before the clean-up drive.

The project's aim was to strengthen the commitment of the Urdaneta City University for the continued delivery of quality education despite the effects of the pandemic. The project was implemented in order to ensure readiness and cleanliness of classrooms and facilities for the start of limited face-to-face classes. Creating an inviting environment for studying.
