University of Antique Spotlights Water Sustainability and Food Security at World Water Day 2026 Global Virtual Celebration
The University of Antique (UA) showcased its commitment to environmental stewardship and global academic cooperation during the World Water Day 2026 celebration. Initiated by Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U), this virtual event served as a high-level platform for UA to present its homegrown innovations alongside a prestigious network of local and international partners.
In collaboration with the Metro Iloilo Water District and the Western Visayas Council of International Relations Officers (WVCIRO), the university highlighted how its specialized campuses are addressing the most critical challenges in water management and food security.
Two of the University of Antique’s key research leaders provided expert insights into how academic initiatives can translate into community resilience and ecological balance:
Dr. Garner Algo Alolod (Director for Research, Extension, and Innovation, UA-TLMC)
Topic: "Sustaining Waters, Sustaining Fisheries: A Path to Food Security and Environmental Balance."
Dr. Rosanni Labnao (Director for Research, Extension, and Innovation, UA Hamtic Campus)
Topic: "Planning for Resilience: UA-LGU Joint Initiatives for Water Stewardship and Disaster Preparedness."
UA stood prominently among an extensive list of presenting institutions, including:
Universitas Bhinneka Nusantara, University of Malaya, University of Puthisastra, Universitas Sebelas Maret, West Visayas State University, University of San Agustin, ISUFST-Dingle Campus, and JBLFMU-Molo, Inc.
The event was further enriched by a vast network of participating institutions from across Southeast Asia and Central Asia, including the Institute of Brunei Technical Education, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, and various state universities across the Philippines.
By championing these initiatives on an international stage, the University of Antique reinforces its role as a leader in Internationalization and Sustainable Development. These efforts ensure that the research conducted within the Hamtic and TLMC campuses contributes significantly to the global effort of protecting and sustaining one of our most vital resources, water.
