LOOK | On October 13, 2025, the MSU Main Campus Sindangan Extension made a significant appearance at the 26th Student-Faculty Conference on Statistical Sciences, held at the University of the Philippines Los BaΓ±os (UPLB). This annual gathering of statisticians provided a platform for sharing impactful research aimed at accelerating the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Pioneer Bachelor of Science in Statistics graduates Vhal Gregory Fernando and Divine Angel Quisel successfully presented their oral paper during the conference's parallel session, supported by their thesis adviser, Prof. Glend Ford Rodriguez.
The conference was organized collaboratively by the UPLB Institute of Statistics, the UP Diliman School of Statistics, and the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute. The morning session featured a plenary presentation by Prof. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, PhD, the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension of UPLB, alongside Ms. Andreana Gabrielle S. Davide from UP CIFAL Philippines. Their insights set the tone for an engaging day of discussions on how statistical research can contribute to sustainable development.
Following the plenary session, the parallel sessions commenced after lunch, categorized into two main tracks. Parallel Sessions A included themes such as People Pillar I, People Pillar II, and Prosperity and Partnership Pillar, while Parallel Sessions B focused on Prosperity and Peace Pillar, People Pillar III, and Planet Pillar. A special session was also held to honor the legacy of the late Prof. Isidro P. David, PhD, recognizing his contributions to the field of statistics.
Mr. Fernando and Ms. Quisel's participation not only showcased their research capabilities but also underscored the commitment of Mindanao State University to advancing statistical science and its role in achieving meaningful societal impact.
