In a promising stride toward inter-institutional partnership, the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) of Eastern Visayas State University and the College of Science (CoS) of Bulacan State University convened for an initial consultative meeting aimed at exploring collaborative undertakings across instruction, research, and extension.
Representing EVSUโs School of Arts and Sciences was Dean Christine Dawn S. Mombay, joined by the Heads of the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry, and Natural Sciences. Complementing the academic leadership were the SAS Coordinators for Internationalization and External Affairs, Research, and Extension, each bringing forward perspectives from their respective mandates.
BulSUโs College of Science, on the other hand, was represented by Associate Dean Benedict Estrella, together with the Chairs of the Mathematics and Science departments, program chairs, and the college coordinators for research and extension. Their presence reflected a shared institutional commitment to fostering meaningful academic linkages.
Notably, this budding partnership was catalyzed by Dr. Valentine Blez L. Lampayan, a faculty member of EVSUโs Department of Mathematics and Statistics and a former faculty of BulSU. Dr. Lampayan, drawing from meaningful professional ties with both institutions, served as a bridge that sparkยญed dialogue, opened doors, and sett the groundwork for what both universities hope will be a long-term and transformative collaboration.
From the outset, both universities expressed a strong and mutually optimistic outlook on forging partnerships designed to elevate academic and community impact. Discussions on instructional collaboration highlighted possibilities such as team teaching, faculty and student development initiatives, and the sharing of instructional resources, efforts seen as instrumental in enriching pedagogical practices and strengthening curricular offerings.
One of the most dynamic portions of the meeting emerged during the research dialogue, particularly between the Heads of the BS Environmental Science programs of both institutions. Their exchange, centered on mangrove ecosystems, environmental resilience, and disaster action, could be described as โhighly stimulatingโ and โripe with potential.โ The rich intersections in their expertise opened avenues for joint studies, comparative fieldwork, and long-term research engagements that could contribute significantly to regional and national environmental discourse.
On extension initiatives, both parties acknowledged the undeniable geographic distance separating the two universities. Still, they emphasized that geographical barriers need not equate to limitations. Through strategic planning and thoughtful program design, they identified feasible opportunities for co-implemented outreach activities, capacity-building efforts, and community-engaged programs.
Although the collaboration is still in its formative stage, both institutions agreed that the next concrete step will be the crafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formally anchor the partnership. Alongside this, immediate courses of action have already been outlined to ensure momentum is sustained.
As the meeting drew to a close, participants from both EVSU and BulSU expressed a shared sense of enthusiasm and purpose. The envisioned partnership, they noted, is more than an administrative arrangement. It is a collective aspiration to broaden academic horizons, uplift communities, and cultivate a culture of collaboration in Philippine higher education.
With foundations now set, both institutions look forward to transforming this early dialogue into meaningful, sustained, and impactful academic synergy.
