NAPC-YS ENDORSES NOMINEES FOR NYC COMMISSIONERS REPRESENTING VISAYAS AND MINDANAO

The National Anti-Poverty Commission Youth and Students (NAPC-YS) Sector formally transmitted this morning its nominations to the Office of the President for the positions of Commissioner for Visayas and Commissioner for Mindanao of the National Youth Commission (NYC). The nominees were NAPC-YS Council Member Metodio B. Maraguinot Jr. and NAPC-YS Council Member Fiel Melan C. Bulaong.

In the endorsement letter signed by Sectoral Representative Ninian Sumadia, the Council expressed confidence of the qualifications, track record, and accomplishments of the two nominees in view of the NYC's rich history of partnerships and collaborations with NAPC-YS. It further said that both nominees can definitely contribute to His Excellency’s strategic agenda of genuine change for the youth of Visayas and Mindanao.

The NAPC-YS is one of the 14 basic sectors of NAPC, a government agency created by virtue of Republic Act 8425, otherwise known as the "Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act." Its main mandate, among others, is to act as the coordinating and advisory body that exercises oversight functions in implementing the SRA and ensure that it is incorporated into the formulation of national, regional, sub-regional and local development plans.

The agency is also tasked with institutionalizing basic sector and NGO participation in managing the SRA cycle and with developing microfinance by establishing the People's Development Trust Fund (PDTF) and strengthening the People's Credit and Finance Corporation as the forerunners for microfinance services. The President of the Philippines chairs the NAPC and is assisted by the Vice-Chairperson for the Government Sector and another Vice-Chairperson for the Basic Sectors.

Excited to know more about the nominees? Keep posted!
