From Young Minds to Meaningful Action: Our Grade 12 STEM Student-Catalysts Step Forward for Environmental Change!

On August 21, 2026, four Grade 12 student-catalysts from the Holy Name University – Integrated Basic Education Department (IBED) Senior High School, Charles Godwin Bersaluna, Angela Kate Caballo, Claud Milana, and Monique Rianne Prima, together with their teacher-mentor, Ms. Anna Cecilia Saludo, LPT, participated in the P.L.A.S.T.I.C.S. (People Leading Action and Sustainable Transformation in Communities and the Society) Solutions and Policy Lab Kick-Off and Launching Program held at the Saulog Session Hall, 3/F New Legislative Building, Tagbilaran City Hall.

The youth-led environmental and policy initiative, spearheaded by Team Saulog under the ASEAN-Japan Young Environmental Leaders Network (AJYELN), provides young people with a meaningful platform to connect research, community engagement, environmental action, and local policymaking in addressing real issues within the community.

Representing HNU-IBED, our young STEM learners are given the opportunity not only to learn about environmental concerns but also to take part in conversations and actions that can help shape solutions for a more sustainable community.

Their participation reflects the spirit of young people who are willing to step beyond the classroom, engage with their community, and become catalysts for meaningful change.

We also recognize the guidance and support of Ma’am Analie B. Manliguez, RN, MA, Science Area Coordinator, and Ms. Anna Cecilia Saludo, LPT, Science Teacher Mentor, in nurturing our students to live out the Holynamian values of Social Responsibility, Excellence, and Servant Leadership. Their participation reflects HNU’s commitment to forming young learners who care for their community and environment, pursue meaningful solutions, and lead through service.
