GREEN LIGHT PITCHING FOR THE SCREEN
YC2 SCREENWRITING CULMINATING ACTIVITY

Behind every great film is a great screenplay. It is the essential blueprint of a movie.

With that in mind the Department of Trade and Industry launched its Young Creatives Challenge Screenwriting Competition. From dozens of screenplays that were submitted last year, DTI, through its Philippine Creative Industries Development Council Secretariat, chose twenty finalists.

These finalists underwent additional training organized by MINT College. Over several months, members of the MINT film faculty conducted peer workshops, refresher courses and one-on-one mentorships for the twenty finalists to fine tune their scripts and to prepare these for pitching to film producers.

And they got that opportunity in Green Light - Pitching for the Screen, the culminating event of the YC2 Screenwriting Competition. On hand to recognize the finalists and their mentors that day were Paolo Federico Ramos, Deputy Executive Director of DTI’s PCIDCS and Attorney Tonisito Umali, MINT College President.

The highlight of the day was the pitch presentations. The finalists pitched their stories to a panel of film producers, festival organizers and industry executives with the goal of eventually landing a production deal that will see their narrative blueprints come to life onscreen.

Good luck to the YC2 Screenwriting Competition winners!

Kapit Bitaw amazed audiences at the Repertory Eastwood Theater last Sunday, April 26, 2026. Two award-winning plays from the Young Creatives Challenge (YC2) Seasons 1 and 2 debuted for one night only to a full house at the Eastwood QC theater. Patahian ng mga Malaya by Aldrich Cancino and Franchesca by Angel Salvador Chiuteña brought all the emotions to a captivated audience from start to finish.

Presented by the Department of Trade and Industry Philippine Creative Industries Development Council Secretariat (DTI-PCIDCS) in partnership with MINT College and Repertory Philippines, these two plays represent a first of its kind production of YC2 award-winning scripts by theater industry faculty from MINT College including director Marvin Ong, musical director Meynard Peñalosa, and REP Artistic Director, Jeremy Domingo. REP Production Manager Patricia Gregorio was the glue that held both productions together.

The appreciative audience cheered as the cast, crew, directors, producers and playwrights took a bow. Playwright, Angel Chiuteña, thankfully watched from a Zoom call based in the US as she was not able to attend her creation in person. Soon after the conclusion of the plays, Marvin facilitated a talk-back between the writers, cast and the audience. The excitement was palpable as audience members eagerly asked questions about the writing, characters and experiences of the crew and how they informed the performances.

This night was one for the history books as MINT College along with its institutional partner, Repertory Philippines, provided the creative support to winning playwrights Aldrich Cancino and Angel Chiuteña to realize their visions for the stage.
