On the 40th anniversary of the People Power Revolution, we pause not only to remember history, but to honor courage.

We commemorate the lives silenced during the years of Martial Law under Ferdinand Marcos; the activists, student leaders, journalists, labor organizers, faith leaders, and ordinary citizens who stood against authoritarian rule. Many were imprisoned. Many were tortured. Many never came home.

Their stories live on in books, documentaries, memorial walls, and in the memories carried by families who refused to forget.

EDSA People Power Revolution was not just a political turning point. It was a collective awakening. Along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, Filipinos from all walks of life chose unity over fear. Armed with rosaries, courage, and solidarity, they reclaimed democracy without violence, showing the world the power of peaceful resistance.

Today, we commemorate: The martyrs who gave their lives for freedom. The survivors who continue to speak truth. The families who endured loss and uncertainty and the generation that chose accountability over silence.

May this remind us that democracy is not inherited, it is defended. That freedom is not permanent, it is protected. And that memory is an act of justice.

May we never forget. May we continue to stand for truth, accountability, and human dignity. โœŠ๐Ÿป

Energy, pride, and cultural flair filled the NORSU Sports and Cultural Complex on February 24 as the 2026 NIRโ€“RASUC 18 Regional Culture and the Arts Festival (RCAF) formally opened, gathering state universities and colleges from across the region in a vibrant celebration of talent and unity.

Hosted by Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), the morning ceremony began with the much-anticipated Parade and Entrance of Delegates. University banners waved high as contingents marched in synchronized steps, cheered on by fellow students and supporters.

Among those who drew loud applause were the delegates of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU). Clad in bold school colors, the CHMSU contingent radiated confidence and school spirit, setting the tone for their participation in the weeklong cultural showcase. Their dynamic entrance reflected not only preparation but also their commitment to excellence in the arts.

The program proceeded with the singing of the National Anthem and an invocation, followed by a warm welcome from NORSU President Hon. Noel Marjon E. Yasi, Psy.D., who emphasized the role of culture and the arts in shaping well-rounded students.

Dr. Carlou G. Bernaldez, RASUC-18 Moderator and Festival Coordinator, formally presented the delegates, recognizing each institutionโ€™s dedication to the festival. Messages from RASUC-18 Chairperson Hon. Renante A. Egcas, Ph.D., and CHEDRO NIR 18 Regional Director Hon. Raul C. Alvarez, Jr., REE, CESO III, highlighted unity, collaboration, and holistic development among state universities.

The symbolic Palihi and the official declaration of the RASUC-18 RCAF 2026 signaled the start of the competitions and performances. The ceremony concluded with a special production number and โ€œNORSU Shine,โ€ a high-energy showcase that celebrated local artistry and regional pride.

As the cheers echoed across the complex, one message rang clear: RASUC-18 RCAF 2026 is more than a festival, it is a gathering of young creatives ready to represent their universities and culture with passion and purpose.
