The TSU COS - Red Cross Youth Council (RCYC) together with its allied organizations, Tarlac Medical Society and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Tarlac Chapter, formally initiated an HIV/AIDS Awareness Seminar on March 6 at the TSU Food Technology AVR, Lucinda Campus.
With several notable guest speakers, the event aims to raise awareness among youth regarding the threatening impact of HIV/AIDS, as well as the safety precautions necessary in real-time occurrences of calamities and disasters.
After a short icebreaker, COS RCYC President Mikaella Rae L. Dionesio started the seminar with her brief opening remark, introducing the topics to be tackled and warmly expressing her gratitude to the attendees and guest speakers at the event.
For the first speaker, Tarlac Medical Society Vice President Hon. Dr. Ryan Yumena discussed the topic of HIV and AIDS, highlighting the difference between these two related diseases and mentioning the negative impacts on the medical health of an individual. He also mentioned the safety precautions on how to avoid contracting the disease and disproves common misconceptions among individuals carrying the disease.
Followed by Sir Sherwin Co Jr., Health Services Head of PRC Tarlac Chapter, who addressed the threat of the dengue virus and its mitigation, cure, and prevention, while mentioning several health facilities that accept blood donation to help those in need, especially patients that contracted the virus.
Finally, Sir Stephen Carl Angeles, Chapter Service Representative of Disaster Management Services at the PRC Tarlac Chapter, stepped in to discuss the safety protocols during natural disasters such as earthquakes, conducting a simulation alarm for students to perform the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" method during an earthquake.
To formally wrap up the event, Dionesio delivered her closing remark, expressing the organizationโs firm goal of prioritizing youth safety and emphasizing the significance of having knowledge and awareness, whether about a medical condition or a natural disaster, to make the youth prepared and safe in any given circumstance.
