Divine Grace S. Tenoc, a senior BEEd student of Visayas State University Tolosa, successfully presented the research paper โ€œGame-On Approach to Literacy (G.O.A.L.): A Gamified Approach to Enhancing Reading Comprehension in Grade 1 Pupilsโ€ at the 9th Action Research, Action Learning International Congress (ARAL2026) hosted by De La Salle University - Manila, held on May 14-16, 2026.

During the presentation, Tenoc shared the studyโ€™s innovative gamified approach to improving reading comprehension among Grade 1 pupils, contributing to discussions on transformative and evidence-based teaching practices in basic education.

The paper was co-authored by Jessica V. Manacpo and Jocel Antonette S. Tenoc, and was completed under the guidance of Dr. Marilou B. Peรฑeda, Head of the VSU Tolosa Department of Teacher Education.

Anchored on the conference theme, โ€œBuilding Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Communities in the Age of Digital Transformation,โ€ ARAL 2026 brought together educators and researchers from across the country and abroad to present action research addressing pressing educational challenges.

#๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”๐‹๐„๐๐“ | Following its historic achievement of producing eight topnotchers in the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT), VSU Tolosa also recorded strong institutional passing rates in both the Elementary and Secondary levels, further solidifying its reputation for academic excellence.

For the Secondary Level, VSU Tolosa posted an 86.30% institutional passing rate, with 95.36% of first-time takers successfully passing the examination, well above the 56.03% national passing rate. In the Elementary Level, the campus achieved an 85.07% institutional passing rate, while 94.74% of first-time takers passed the examination, surpassing the 73.10% national passing rate.

๐‡๐€๐๐๐„๐๐ˆ๐๐† ๐๐Ž๐– | The SEA Teacher Selection is currently underway at the VSU Tolosa KOICA Conference Room for Field Study students aspiring to complete their teaching internship abroad through the SEA Teacher Program for A.Y. 2026-2027.

The top-performing student during the selection will be deployed to one of the partner universities in Indonesia and Thailand alongside interns from other VSU campuses.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š | The VSU Tolosa Department of Teacher Education conducted the second level of screening for aspiring freshmen under its Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd), and Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAEd) programs on May 4-5, 2026.

The screening process was carried out through a series of oral interviews, including skills tests for BPEd and BCAEd, administered by DTE faculty members. The screening aims to assess the applicantsโ€™ communication skills, critical thinking, and readiness to pursue a career in the teaching profession. The activity forms a crucial part of the departmentโ€™s admission process, ensuring that incoming students possess not only academic potential but also the essential qualities of future educators.

Instr. Eugenio Permejo Jr., from the VSU Tolosa Department of Teacher Education, contributed to international scholarship through a research presentation at the 8th Linguistic Society of the Philippines International Conference (LSPIC), held from April 23 to 25, 2026, at West Visayas State University in Iloilo City.

Instr. Permejo presented a study co-authored with Prof. Romylyn Metila, originally developed for a course requirement. Entitled โ€œCross-Linguistic Influence and Metalinguistic Awareness in the Acquisition of Bahasa Indonesia L3: The Case of a Multilingual Filipina Teacher,โ€ the research explores how migrant teachers utilize their prior linguistic knowledge and heightened language awareness in learning an additional language.

Bringing together around 400 participants from various institutions, the conference served as a dynamic venue for scholarly exchange on current issues and emerging developments in linguistics and language education.

Permejoโ€™s participation highlights VSU Tolosaโ€™s growing presence in research and its commitment to advancing scholarship in language education and multilingualism.

John Patrick Udtohan, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics, has once again brought pride to the entire Tolosa Viscan community after securing a Silver Medal Award in the recently concluded Carl Balita Review Center (CBRC) National Teacher Education Quiz Bee 2026.

Udtohan delivered an impressive performance in the nationwide competition held on April 27, 2026, which gathered participants from more than 150 schools across the country. The quiz bee, conducted through an online modality, saw contestants competing from different provinces across the country.

Off to a strong start, he secured a spot in the Top 10 during the easy round. Although he did not advance to the Top 5 and Top 3 rankings in the average and difficult rounds, respectively, Udtohan was still recognized as a Silver Medal Awardee, a distinction granted for his consistent performance across all stages of the contest.

Udtohan was accompanied by Instr. Lovely Enfermo, the Pre- LEPT Convener of the VSU Tolosa Department of Teacher Education, who also served as his coach.

The CBRC National Teacher Education Quiz Bee is recognized as a highly competitive platform that gathers top-performing teacher education students from across the country, making Udtohanโ€™s achievement even more commendable.

The quiz bee concluded with the following winners:

Top 2 โ€“ Sharie Rose Truya (Davao del Norte State College)
