SLSU TO holds Pinning Ceremony for BEED, BPED, and BSED
To mark the transition from students to student teachers, SLSU held the Pinning Ceremony 2022 for the Education Program on February 8, 2023, at SLSU-TO Covered Court.
One hundred fifty-seven Student Teachers (ST) from Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), and Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) filled the venue, dressed in tea green, all set to have their uniforms pinned.
At 7 in the morning, the program kicked off with the contract signing between the parents and the ST coordinators. Then, a few minutes before 9, Dr. Pritzel Lee G. Capili, ST Coordinator for BPED, took the microphone to remind the parents that the race is not finished yet and the rest of the trip will require more financial and emotional support from parents.
The second part of the ceremony began with the opening remarks of Mr. Dave L. Rellanos, Student Teacher's Organization (STO) President, followed by an inspirational talk from the newly-installed College Dean, Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla, who shared his definition of the term PIN – Professionalism and/or Personal Life, the ability to Initiate and Innovate, and the ability to Nurture one's support system. The end of his speech cued the beginning of the most-awaited part – the pinning of the nameplates.
The presentation of pins was headed by Mr. Joseph Anavesa, BSED English and Filipino Coordinator; Dr. Melbert O. Hungo, BSED Science and Math Coordinator; Mr. Rey C. Guinoo, BSED Social Studies Coordinator; Mr. Nonilon B. Consul, BEED Coordinator, and Dr. Pritzel Lee G. Capili, BPED Coordinator.
When all STs were pinned, the department heads of BPED, BEED, and BSED gave their message to their beloved STs. Dr. Criselyn Sescon reminded the "survivors" that adversities are always inevitable. To overcome them, the STs must be respectful of time, be flexible to requests, and keep their determination. Ma'am Jovillea Palanca noted the importance of keeping one's poise throughout the day since teachers should embody external and internal grace. Lastly, Dr. Norlyn Borong cited that the event is a walk to remember in becoming professional teachers. STs and their sponsors should celebrate how they are one step closer to realizing their dreams.
Ms. Regina Mae Malate, Ms. April Rose Auditor, Mr. Lysander Lumanta, and Ms. Krisiel Marie Laguna gave their speeches on the hardships of the previous years and the glory of the Practice Teaching journey, which all STs agree will be colorful and challenging. The program ended with Ms. Laguna's words reverberating to the crowd, inciting euphoria as she noted that the STs present were the students who dared to continue and that they are almost there. Many were called and chosen, but only a few dared to continue. "Thank you for clinging on to the word padayon."
The attendees paid tribute to the university by singing the SLSU Hymn. The photo opportunity followed, signaling the end of the ceremony.
