MAY 22, 2026, CSAV IS COVERED COURT โ€” The annual BSTM Culminating Day wouldnโ€™t be complete without the much-anticipated runway show. Hence, the first-year BSTM students graced the IS covered court as they made their way from the stage to the red carpet wearing their smart casual attire. Looking like professional models, the first section to serve looks and fashion was Delta, followed by Echo, Charlie, Alpha, and Beta.

With their chins held high, fixed posture, and elegant outfits, all students bravely showed up, serving as living proof that they can carry themselves well even amidst the pool of eyes watching their every move. Where every click of shoes screamed satisfaction and every step was a pathway toward a confidence that some of them never knew they had, the Look Good, Feel Good runway ended successfully.

Big thanks to Dr. Ando, the BSTM Program Head and the subject teacher for THCC 123, for integrating such an activity to gradually hone the attributes of BSTM students. Every step matters, and the walk that the first-year students did was already a milestone in professional development.

Educ Days was officially launched at the CSAV-IS Covered Court on May 7, 2026, with the theme "Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow: Empower Minds, Shape the Future." The event kicked off with a prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Ms. Shelly Pama served as the Master of Ceremonies for the program.

Afterward, Dr. Anna Liza Santillana, Program Head of the Education Department, delivered her welcome remarks for the Day 1 festivities. Following her inspiring message, the BPED 3A students led an energetic Zumba session for both students and faculty, awakening their spirits and letting them feel the rhythm of the music.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by the Education Department faculty, including Ms. Ma. Theresa Tolentino, Dr. Anna Liza Santillana, and Dr. Efren Pagalilawan. Additionally, various teams participated in the first collaborative game: LGBTQIA+ Basketball. Team Bang was declared the winner of the match with a total of 30 points.

The winners of the various collaborative games were as follows:
Kadang-Kadang/Tissue Relay: TEAM MAPEH
Sack Race: TEAM SCIENCE

May 1, known as Labor Day or Araw ng Manggagawa, is more than a date on the calendar. It represents the marches, voices, and slogans, where Filipino workers come together from Plaza Moriones in Tondo to Malacaรฑang not to celebrate but to reclaim their rights and independence while exposing the realities of inequality, foreign influence, and the strong grip of capitalist and imperialist systems. Labor Day is more than just a celebration, it is a protest; not just a remembrance, but resistance.

This holiday is rooted in the history of the early labor movement during the American colonial period. One of the earliest and most influential movements was the Union Obrera Democratica de Filipinas, founded on February 2, 1902, by Isabelo de los Reyes and Herminigildo Cruz to advance the rights of Filipino workers. After de los Reyes was arrested in August 1902 on charges of sedition and โ€œconspiracy to raise the price of labor,โ€ leadership passed to Dominador Gomez, who continued the movementโ€™s advocacy. The historical trajectory of organized labor eventually led to greater unity among workers, culminating in the formation of the Congreso Obrero de Filipinas and the convening of a landmark labor congress on May 1, 1913. This gathering was attended by dozens of labor unions, which marked the first recognized Labor Day observance in the country, centered on demands for workersโ€™ rights, the eight-hour workday, and broader calls for Philippine independence and social justice.

May this day serve as a reminder to Filipinos of the long and difficult journey marked by both progress and setbacks, built upon years of struggle that laid the foundation of what we now recognize as workersโ€™ rights. May it also call on us to reflect with wisdom and act with courage, especially in defending the rights of the working class, who remain the driving force of the nationโ€™s progress. For it is through their labor that society moves forward, and it is through solidarity and awareness that true justice and dignity are sustained.
