The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), under the leadership of System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura and Villanueva Campus Administrator Prof. Colbert G. Rabaya, officially solidified its partnership with the PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 12:30 PM.
The event took place at the PHIVIDEC Administration Building within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority Complex in Tagoloan, gathering key officials, stakeholders, and representatives from both institutions. Leading the PHIVIDEC delegation was CEO & Administrator Atty. Joseph Donato J. Bernedo, alongside PHIVIDEC-IA officers, Deputy Administrator I, Atty. EnP Hyessa S. Suegay, Deputy Administrator I, Operations, Benjamin C. Medrano, Enterprise Assistance Division Chief, Support Services, Ian Valencia.
The MOA signing marks a significant milestone as USTP โ Villanueva Campus is formally recognized as a PHIVIDEC locator, strengthening its role as a strategic partner in regional industrial and economic development. Notably, USTP Villanueva stands as the first and only university in the Philippines nestled within a pre-existing industrial ecozone, uniquely positioning it at the intersection of academia and industry.
This distinction enables the university to further enhance its contributions in research, innovation, workforce development, and industry collaboration within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate, providing students with direct exposure to real-world industrial environments.
The open-house event also highlighted opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry, reinforcing shared commitments to sustainable development, technological advancement, and inclusive growth in Northern Mindanao.
In his message, Dr. Cultura emphasized the importance of aligning academic programs with industry needs, while Prof. Rabaya reaffirmed the campusโs dedication to producing globally competitive graduates. Meanwhile, Atty. Bernedo underscored PHIVIDECโs vision of fostering strong partnerships that drive economic progress and community development.
This partnership underscores a shared vision between USTP and PHIVIDEC to cultivate innovation ecosystems that empower students, industries, and local communities alike.
