Asso. Prof. Hazel Tiam Wat Ututalum has been recognized as the recipient of the Best Paper Award (Professional Category) at the 2025 Research Conference on Gender Equality, Diversity, Social Inclusion, and Education, held on the 30th day of November 2025 at Silliman University, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines. 🏆🌸

Her research, “Sawu’h Duruh: Beyond Breastfeeding Among Tausug Muslim,” was commended for its strong alignment with the core principles of GEDSI and for its valuable contribution to inclusive, diverse, and transformative educational practice. Her dedication to advancing meaningful scholarship continues to inspire colleagues and communities alike. 🌿🤍

🤍🧡 WMSU College of Nursing stands 𝑼𝑵𝒊𝑻𝑬𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝑽𝑨𝑾-𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔! 🧡🤍

The WMSU Nursing Department took part in the November 27, 2025 VAW Parade, showcasing commitment, creativity, and advocacy throughout the event. The celebration continued with the Arko de VAWC Competition, where the department proudly earned 3RD PLACE with an arch built from recyclable, eco-friendly materials anchored on this year’s EVAW theme: “UNiTEd for a VAW-Free Philippines.”

The GAD Corner League further highlighted the department’s dedication through informative displays featuring GAD laws, policies, statistics, organizational structures, and programs that strengthen awareness and gender responsiveness.

Advocacy also shined in VAWCtivate Your Mind: Quiz Bee Showdown, where college representatives competed in teams of two, answering questions on Basic GAD Concepts, VAWC knowledge, and related laws—promoting awareness through learning and teamwork.

Participating in the Mixed Media Competition, where it showcased the artistic talent of WMSU students as they presented meaningful interpretations of GAD-related issues using diverse creative mediums.

VAWry much appreciation goes to all NGC coordinators, faculty, and participants whose dedication made this advocacy shine. ✨ Each effort, idea, and display brought the message forward with purpose and pride. 🧡🌟

Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) is a pressing issue faced worldwide persisting from the past until the present time. Women and children were vulnerable to challenges and pain rooted from those violence. Truly, a matter that must truly be fought against. 🌎⚔️

In line with this, the Anti-VAWC Act, was passed into law to create an environment where protection, safety, and equity richly foster for all women and children.

As part of the continuous commitment of advocating the Anti- VAWC Act, the Gender advocates celebrates the 𝟭𝟴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 from November 25- December 12 with the theme “𝘽𝘼𝘽𝘼𝙀 𝙎𝘼 𝙇𝘼𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙉𝙂 𝙎𝙀𝙆𝙏𝙊𝙍, 𝘼𝘼𝙉𝙂𝘼𝙏 𝘼𝙉𝙂 𝘽𝙐𝙆𝘼𝙎 𝙎𝘼 𝘽𝘼𝙂𝙊𝙉𝙂 𝙋𝙄𝙇𝙄𝙋𝙄𝙉𝘼𝙎”.

‎Check your calendars 🗓️—October is here, for in this span of days, our voices are lifted, our cry made strong, against an adversary that hath shadowed countless lives. It is a month where we amplify our call 📢 on a fight that diagnoses millions across the globe; the incessant battle against breast and cervical cancer—the most common cancer affecting women worldwide, with millions of new cases diagnosed every year. 🌍

‎To face a diagnosis—or to stand beside someone enduring treatment—is no small feat. The strength, courage, and quiet resilience it demands are worthy of deep respect. 💪 Time itself can feel uncertain, as days slip by in the tension between fear and hope.

‎And yet, as October surrounds us with pink 🌸, we must remember what it truly signifies. The color is a symbol of unity and strength 🙌, yet the reality it represents is pensive: Pink is not just for the pretty and cute; it means more than that. 💖

‎Breast Cancer Awareness Month was never fashioned to be about pink alone. Its purpose runs far deeper: to remind us of the importance of regular screenings and Breast Self-Examination 🧐, to sustain research, and to stand steadfast beside those who find themselves amid this arduous struggle. For, in verity, 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘦—to prevent is to conquer—and early detection is better than late treatment. 😏

✨ Breaking the Silence, Embracing the Fight ✨

On October 16, 2025, Western Mindanao State University united for Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a day filled with courage, compassion, and hope. 💖

🌸 Survivors stood tall, sharing stories of resilience that moved hearts and reminded us that strength shines even in the darkest battles.

🌸 Inspiring speakers awakened us to the reality of breast cancer, breaking stigma and spreading life-saving knowledge.

🌸 Tote bags, keychains, mugs, and shirts carried not just designs, but a cause worth fighting for.

🌸 Free breast screenings were offered—not just for women, but for everyone—because awareness knows no gender.

This event was more than a gathering; it was an eye-opener, a call to action, and a celebration of life. Breast cancer is not something to hide from—it’s something we face together, with courage and compassion. 💪🎗️

Early detection saves lives. Awareness breaks shame. Unity builds hope.

The nursing profession has always stood for holistic health, caring not just for the body, but also for the mind and spirit. As nurses, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health in achieving true well-being.

What we often forget is that anyone, a friend, a family member, even a classmate, may be silently struggling. This is why mental health support should be as normal and accessible as going to the doctor when we are physically sick.

So, when challenges feel overwhelming, seeking help is never a weakness, it is an act of courage. Whether it’s opening up to a trusted friend, speaking with a therapist, or reaching out to a helpline, support is always within reach. The first step is reaching out, and that step already makes oneself stronger.

Together, we raise awareness, extend compassion, and advocate for better mental health care for everyone. By breaking the silence and ending the stigma, we can create a kinder and healthier world for all. A world where everyone receives compassion, understanding, and proper care in all aspects.

✨ SOGIESC Summit 2025✨
With the resonating theme: “Equity Without Borders: Gender Strategies for the 21st Century – One University, One Equal Voice in Shaping Gender Priority,” the SOGIESC Summit became a powerful platform for dialogue, empowerment, and collaboration.

Organized by the WMSU Gender Association in coordination with the Gender Research Resource Center, the summit served as a milestone event in advancing gender equity within the academic community. Representatives from the different Gender Clubs of Western Mindanao State University came together in a collective effort to strengthen awareness, foster inclusivity, and shape forward-looking strategies that respond to the evolving challenges of gender and development in the 21st century.

This gathering was not only a celebration of diversity but also a reaffirmation of WMSU’s commitment to championing gender equity and amplifying every voice—because in unity, there is strength, and in equality, there is progress. 💜✊🌟

You might be wondering 🤔, “Isn’t Pride Month enough? Why do we need to celebrate being bi?”

National Bisexuality Day isn’t just about celebrating being bisexual — it’s also about shining a light on the erasure that many bisexual people face.
Bi-erasure often stems from the belief that the bisexual community doesn't deserve the same recognition as those in the le***an and gay communities. Bisexual people are often labeled as “confused” or “not q***r enough” to be part of the LGBTQ+ community — and that’s not okay.

Let us stand together✨ to challenge these stigmas and help create a more supportive environment 🌸 by educating ourselves and showing love and unwavering support🫶 to our bisexual friends, family, and community members 💖💜💙🏳️‍🌈!
