𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐖𝐌𝐒𝐔) proudly celebrated another milestone in its journey towards research excellence through the 2025 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒚, held on December 16, 2025, at the Yakan 2 Hall, Garden Orchid Hotel. The event brought together university officials, faculty members, researchers, and dedicated support personnel in a gathering filled with pride, gratitude, and shared accomplishment.

More than an awarding ceremony, the event highlighted the collective effort behind WMSU’s growing research culture. In his opening message, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐞𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐄. 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐝𝐚 underscored that research excellence is a shared responsibility made possible through the synergy of researchers, coordinators, technical staff, and administrative units working together to transform knowledge into meaningful impact for both the University and the community.

The ceremony also reflected the strong support of the University Administration. Heartfelt appreciation was extended to 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚 𝐀. WMSU RPDU Conducts Virtual 2nd Quarter Monitoring for Institutionally Funded R&D Projects

On June 30, 2025, the Research Project Development Unit (RPDU) of Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) successfully conducted its scheduled 2nd Quarter Monitoring for institutionally funded Research and Development (R&D) projects. This crucial procedural activity, executed virtually via Zoom starting at 1:00 PM, involved the systematic review of 16 ongoing internal R&D initiatives.

This quarterly monitoring constitutes an integral component of WMSU’s comprehensive research management and quality assurance system. The primary objective is to rigorously assess the progress of research projects financed through the university's internal funds against their approved work plans, deliverables, and timelines. Such exercises are paramount for ensuring accountability in resource utilization, identifying potential impediments or deviations requiring strategic intervention, facilitating robust communication between project teams and research administrators, and ultimately ensuring alignment with institutional research priorities.

The virtual monitoring session commenced with a prayer, followed by a message from Dr. Marvin A. Maulion, the Head of the RPDU, who provided contextual insights into the activity and articulated expectations for the subsequent project presentations. The main segment of the session was dedicated to sequential presentations by the principal investigators or designated representatives of the distinct institutionally funded R&D projects. These presentations focused on reporting tangible accomplishments during the second quarter of 2025, evaluating progress concerning established project milestones, discussing encountered challenges, and outlining proposed activities for the subsequent quarter.

Unlocking Innovation from Within: WMSU's Agency In-House Review Elevates Research Excellence

In a relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation, Western Mindanao State University recently concluded its Agency In-House Review for Project Development, a critical two-day event held from June 25-26, 2025, at the RDEC Conference Room. Far more than a routine assessment, this year’s review marked a significant stride towards global engagement and heightened research impact, highlighted by the inclusion of esteemed external panelists and the promising prospect of external funding for exceptional projects.

Aligned with University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena’s vision for academic excellence and research innovation, the AIHRRD serves as a rigorous internal crucible where 24 research proposals and completed projects underwent meticulous scrutiny. Organized by the Research Project Development Unit (RPDU) under the broader Western Mindanao State University Research, Extension Services, and External Linkages (WMSU-RESEL) umbrella, the event brought together WMSU's brightest minds to present their intellectual labor.

A distinguishing feature of this year's Agency In-House Review was the invaluable participation of prominent external evaluators. This move underscores WMSU's commitment to benchmarking its research against national and international standards. The esteemed panel included:

ARD Ricardo J. Apolinario III, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations Services, Department of Science and Technology IX, bringing a crucial governmental and strategic perspective.

Dr. Mark Angelo O. Balendres, a Full Professor and Plant Pathologist from De La Salle University, offering expertise from a leading national academic institution.

Dr. Roberto B. Corcino, University Professor and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Cebu Normal University, providing insights from another respected regional university.

Dr. Maribel R. Gaite, President of the Philippine Association of Mixed Methods Researchers and Emergent Scholars Faculty, University of the Philippines - Diliman, contributing a wealth of knowledge in methodological rigor and interdisciplinary approaches.

Significantly, the Department of Science and Technology IX (DOST IX) identified four projects presented during the review as strong candidates for external funding. The day's proceedings commenced with Dr. Nursia M. Barjose, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivering her welcome remarks.
