The 3rd International Workshop on “Development of Sustainable Citrus Value Chains in Pakistan”, organized by the Institute of Horticultural Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad under the ACIAR Project HORT/2020/129, was held from 26–27 September and 4–6 October 2025. The multi-day program featured interactive sessions, technical presentations, and field visits aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s citrus industry. The inaugural sessions in Faisalabad included discussions on sustainable value chain development, gender and social inclusion, fruit quality improvement, marketing challenges, and knowledge management. Subsequent field activities in Sargodha involved visits to citrus orchards, grower interactions, and engagements with processors and exporters to observe value chain interventions in practice. The concluding sessions focused on capacity building of interns under the Citrus Revival Project and collaborative meetings with the Citrus Research Institute and University of Sargodha leadership.

3rd Seminar on ‘Introducing Exotic Fruit Crops for Diversification and Sustainable Production’

Institute of Horticultural Sciences, UAF had organized 3rd National Seminar on ‘Introducing Exotic Fruit Crops for Diversification and Sustainable Production’ on 17 September 2025 under PARB Project. This event was planned to overview the project progress and for distribution of 3rd batch of exotic fruit crops germplasm to the collaborators. In this event, many distinguished guests and speakers participated from different departments of UAF, Citrus Research Institute (CRI), Sargodha, Mango Research Institute (MRI), Multan, Horticulture Research Institute (HRI), Vegetable Research Institute (VRI) and other departments of Ayub Agriculture Research Institute (AARI), Faisalabad. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sattar Khan, Director, HIS, UAF in his inaugural address highlighted need for germplasm diversification and introduction of exotic fruit crops to mitigate climate change and ensure food security. Prof. Dr. Usman Khan presented overview of the project progress and highlighted that plant material of 63 varieties of 18 different fruit crops that was imported from USA, Australia and China had been distributed among collaborators for testing adaptability and productivity. Mr. Akbar Hayat, Director, CRI, Sargodha and Mr. Inam Bokhari, SS, MRI, Multan also presented progress of their components. Mr. Umer Saeed Qadari, Deputy Registrar UAF and an amateur fruit grower also appreciated the efforts of Prof. Usman for introducing new fruit crops and widening the fruit basket of Punjab. The germplasm of exotic fruit varieties imported from Thailand was distributed by Prof. Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF. He also appreciated the untiring efforts and contributions of Prof. Dr. M. Usman, PM, PARB project and his team to achieve these milestone goals. Prof. Usman thanked all the distinguished guests and speakers for sparing time and making this event a success. This initiative marked another giant step towards promotion of potential exotic fruit crops and diversifying genetic resources in the region. Horticultural experts at University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday said that in view of intensive growth of housing colonies and urbanization, entrepreneurs should tap the benefit from the potential of horticulture landscape businesses that can contribute significantly to economic growth, employment creation and environmental sustainability.
They addressed a two-day workshop titled 3D Landscape Design for Entrepreneurs: Turning Passion into Business arranged by the Institute of Horticulture Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The workshop covered a comprehensive outline including integration of plants in landscape design and landscape business strategies; the use of 3D modeling software, tools and techniques for 3D models.
Dean Agriculture Dr Ghulam Murtaza urged the participants to develop expertise in landscape design and maintenance and exploring opportunities in floriculture and ornamental plants. He said that besides developing green strategy, one should also analyze the soil health which is deteriorating with the passage of time. He added that the landscape experts beautify the environment that provides recreational opportunity to the people to get refuge from monotonous routine and depression and to enjoy the nature with freshness in the air.
Director Horticulture Dr Ahmad Sattar said that the demand for professional landscape design and maintenance is increasing, particularly in urban areas and housing societies. He added that our diverse climate allows cultivation of a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants.
Dr Adnan Younis stressed upon the need to utilize landscaping software to create professional and business development. He added that in the world of increasing urbanization, the demands for landscaping professional was escalating. He added the expanded green net are essential to cope with climate changes issues and for a better tomorrow.
The workshop featured esteemed participants. They engaged in hands-on activities and discussions on 3D landscape design, exploring innovative techniques and trends in landscape architecture. The participants gained valuable insights into transforming outdoor spaces into stunning 3D landscapes, enhancing their skills in design and visualization.

To showcase new mango varieties, mango value-added products and technology packages for quality mango production and postharvest supply chain management, the Institute of Horticultural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF, participated in the 9th Mango Festival organized by MNS Agriculture University at Multan on 2nd August 2025. Team led by Prof. Dr. M. Imran Arshad, Director ORIC, along with Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sattar Khan, Director IHS, Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Director BIC, and Dr. Inam Ur Raheem, Assoc. Prof., NIFSAT briefed the growers, stakeholders and distinguished guests regarding UAF technologies. Industry stakeholders and growers took a keen interest in UAF mango varieties and technologies, and demanded a nursery of these varieties and capacity building for mango value-added products development.
