Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with School of Universal Health Coverage Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad (STMU), is offering a One year diploma “International Diploma on Mental Health, Law, Human Rights and Universal Health Coverage” as a blended learning program.
This program has been chalked out considering that human rights can influence the practice of mental health professionals, lawyers, policy-makers, administrators, agency workers, service providers and activists. This diploma will equip the participants with a wealth of knowledge, tools and resources so that they can play an active part to ensure that the rights of people with psycho-social (mental health) disabilities are better respected.
In 2008, United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) came into force, and since then there has been a need to raise awareness regarding the Convention and provide guidance on its implications in relation to future national mental health policy, legislation, services and practice.
The Diploma is a response to this perceived need for training in this area in Pakistan. The course will help in building the capacity of students to advocate for human rights and to influence national legislative and policy and service reform in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other key international human rights standards
