The abolition of the 25% income tax rebate for full-time teachers and researchers in Pakistan through the Finance Act 2022 has been a significant setback for the academic and research community. This decision not only increases the financial burden on professionals dedicated to education and innovation but also discourages talent from entering or remaining in these critical fields.

For years, this tax relief served as a small yet meaningful acknowledgment of the invaluable contributions made by educators and researchers in shaping future generations and advancing knowledge. By removing this incentive, the government risks undermining motivation, retention, and overall morale within the sector.

In a time when global economies are strengthening their investment in education and research through tax benefits and grants, this move signals a **lack of prioritization for intellectual growth and academic excellence** in Pakistan. Many educators and researchers who were already facing **low salaries and limited funding opportunities** now find themselves further strained.

Reconsidering this decision and reinstating **financial relief measures** for teachers and researchers would not only be a step towards valuing their contributions but also a strategic investment in the country’s intellectual and economic future.
