Dr. Muhammad Ajmal, National Institute of Psychology (NIP) is an autonomous organization under the Federal Government with a mandate to carry out research in the discipline of Psychology and teaching at higher levels of education. The NIP was established in 1976 by the Ministry of Education under a resolution with main objectives to undertake social psychological research and to look into the fact

ors which impede national integration, and thus also to discover new ways of installing a sense of nation-hood among the people of the country. In 1983, the Federal Ministry of Education decided to give NIP the status of a Centre of Excellence in Psychology and to locate it in Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. As a Centre of Excellence in Psychology, the objectives of this Institute have been defined in Parliament's Act No. They are as follows:

to engage in goal-oriented high-level teaching and research;
to train research workers;
to establish MPhil, Ph.D. and other educational program in psychology (in accordance with the requirements of the Quaid-i-Azam University in which the Centre is established);
to promote co-operation in inter-disciplinary relationship with other teaching and research establishments;
to arrange conferences, seminars and refresher courses for the development of teaching and research; and
to conduct teaching and research in psychology as assigned to it by the Federal Government in consultation with the University. The Institute, while keeping its emphasis on applied research intact, substantially increased its teaching and training activities. It started its M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Psychology programs, both the degrees requiring development of high level research skills among students who produce research theses on successful completion of their studies. In 1983 when the Institute was given status of Centre of Excellence at Quaid-i-Azam University, it was located in shared offices spaces in the Mathematics and Computer Sciences blocks of the University. During early eighties, the government approved a scheme for a purpose-built building for the Institute. This building was completed in 1996 and the Institute shifted to it in the first quarter of 1997. This building is situated towards the southeastern corner of the University and occupies a location of scenic beauty. A link road, has been constructed which connects the main campus of the University with the Institute. It can also be approached from Shahdara Road, which branches off from Murree Road. After Dr. Ajmal's death in 1994, in order to honour him, the Government of Pakistan renamed the Institute as Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Institute of Psychology.

A Cardiovascular Health Seminar was jointly organized by the National Institute of Psychology (NIP), Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, and Sarwar Shahida Trust on 14th May 2026 at the National Institute of Psychology, Islamabad. The seminar was conducted to raise awareness regarding cardiovascular diseases, preventive healthcare, and the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices within the community.
The seminar featured keynote addresses and speeches by prominent personalities including Dr. Shoaib Sarwar Hashmi (President, Sarwar Shahida Trust, Gen. Zubair Mehmood Hayat (R) (Patron, Sarwar Shahida Trust), Major Gen Naseer Ahmad Samore (R) ( Friend of Trust, Sarwar Shahida Trust), Ms. Nina Khan Mashriqi (Trustee/Director UK Core Committee, Sarwar Shahida Trust), and Mian Asmatullah Khan (Advocate Supreme Court).
The speakers highlighted the growing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and stressed the importance of adopting healthy daily habits to prevent heart-related complications. They emphasized the need for regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, routine blood pressure and health monitoring, stress management, and timely medical checkups. Participants were encouraged to make wise food choices by reducing unhealthy dietary practices and adopting healthier eating habits for long-term wellbeing.
The seminar also introduced the mission and healthcare initiatives of Sarwar Shahida Trust through presentations and discussions focused on community welfare and cardiovascular healthcare services. Speakers encourage students to work volunteer for the donations for noble cause. An interactive session was held at the end of the seminar, allowing participants to engage with the speakers and discuss health-related concerns and future community initiatives. The event concluded with the words of thanks by Director, NIP, Professor Dr. Rubina Hanif, followed by group photographs of the guests and organizers.

Marqa-e-Haq: A Catalyst for National Integration
The National Institute of Psychology (NIP) at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, hosted a landmark symposium titled Marqa-e-Haq: A Catalyst for National Integration on May 7, 2026. The event was organized to commemorate the first anniversary of Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos (April 22 – May 10, 2025), a military response Pakistan terms as the “Battle of Truth” against Indian aggression. The symposium aimed to translate a military milestone into a broader discourse on psychological resilience, national cohesion, and counter-extremism. The session was anchored around the theme that truth, resilience, and unity are the foundations of an inclusive Pakistan. The event commenced a formal opening ceremony including Tilawat, Naat, the National Anthem, and Milli Naghma. Keynote address by (Lt. Gen. (R) Muhammad Raza Former Corps Commander/NDU President provided strategic insights. The General provided a security-centric view, stating that India violated existing treaties and "murdered people of Kashmir based on mere suspicion." He asserted that Pakistan successfully communicated its military capability to retaliate against Afghan and Indian threats concluding youth of Pakistan as the first line of defense. Keynote address by Mr. Kashif Irshad, DG KPCVE provided Institutional and shifted focus to socio-institutional reform. He stressed that institutional frameworks (like the KP Hybrid Peace Compact) turn military wins into lasting social peace. Speaker Abdul Rehman from AR Brothers noted that humans are in "misery due to intellect" and that salvation lies in following God. He argued that the Pakistan Armed Forces are successful because they follow divine commands. He warned that spreading unverified information is an indication of hypocrisy. Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Acting VC QAU), the Guest of Honor explained that psychological warfare preceded the actual conflict. He noted that "Twitter strikes" were conducted by India, but Pakistan gained the international high ground by adhering to the Islamic doctrine of war (distinguishing combatants from non-combatants). The event provided recommendations emphasizing the vital role of youth as the "first line of defense in spirit form." They called for eliminating negative tendencies, understanding the Indian agenda to poison youth minds, and establishing political education and leadership programs within academia. Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director NIP anchored the dialogue within the framework of psychological resilience. She highlighted her research on indigenous intervention programs against radicalization, emphasizing that mental health advocacy and social competence are vital for national stability. The event concluded followed by the distribution of souvenirs and shields among the guest speakers.

Seminar on the Future of Mental Health in Pakistan
The National Institute of Psychology successfully hosted a seminar on “The Future of Mental Health in Pakistan: How AI is Transforming Psychology and Patient Care” on 28th April 2026. The session featured Mr. Jonathan Thralow of VieroMind, who shared valuable insights into the evolving landscape of mental health care in Pakistan. He highlighted the transformative role of artificial intelligence in improving access to mental health services, enhancing self-awareness, and connecting individuals with appropriate professional support.
The seminar also emphasized the importance of culturally relevant psychological care, strengthened professional training, and collaborative efforts among academia, practitioners, policymakers, and technology innovators. Students enthusiastically participated in the interactive session and engaged in meaningful discussions on the future of mental health care in Pakistan.

A two-day experience sharing workshop (13-14th April 2026) on the Parwarish and Aagosh modules was held at Jahanzaib College Swat. This workshop followed a previous four-day training conducted by the National Institute of Psychology (NIP), Centre of Excellence, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
The focus of the workshop was the Parwarish (Art of Parenting) module. Participants shared their field experiences, appreciated the practical review sessions, and discussed the challenges they faced during implementation. These challenges were then addressed with the guidance of Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director NIP, and her team.
The closing ceremony was attended by Senator Muhammad Rahat Hussain, Commissioner Malakand Mr. Masood Ahmad, and Principal Jahanzaib College Mr. Muhammad Kamal. They appreciated the efforts of NIP and its partner organizations, including KPCVE, Aga Khan Foundation, and NCSW, for their joint work on improving parenting programs.
The event was also attended by Mr. Kashif Irshad (KPCVE) and Dr. Qayyum Noorani (Aga Khan Foundation), who appreciated the collaborative efforts and showed their agreement for further collaboration with NIP to make parenting programs more effective.
