Assalam-u- Alaikum
I decided to reach out to as many people I can as my frustration is growing
year by year not seeing many Pakistani student’s participation in this
amazing program called Google Summer of Code (https://developers.google.
com/open-source/gsoc/). If you have a
son/daughter/niece/nephew/neighbour/relative/anyone
who you know is a university student and has interest in programming, they
should check out this programme. The link provided above describes
necessary details. Basically it’s a program where university students can
spent their summer break coding with some great mentors while getting
stipend for that too. Based on some of the work performed by past students
from this programme, I would love to see more Pakistani kids participating
as this can do wonders to our next generations. We just need to act fast as
deadline for 2017 is fast approaching.
I highly encourage you all to check this out and also share within your
circles. *I myself in NO way associated with this programme*. However I
have been involved in co-op programs with various universities in US and
Canada for many years now. Based on that experience, I can say this without
any iota of doubt that students from our colleges and universities in
Pakistan can compete with any other student anywhere in the world. We just
need to provide necessary encouragement and confidence they need at this
stage of their career.
