Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) has been sponsored by Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association of Pakistan, Karachi. It was set up through the Sindh Government Ordinance No. XII of 1993 dated 6th October, 1993 and the Charter granted by Governor of Sindh on 8th October, 1993. The Act was passed by the provincial Assembly of Sindh on 17th September, 1995 and assented
by Governor of Sindh on 16th October 1995, and published in the Gazette as "Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Act 1995 - Sindh Act No. The prospects for employment of graduates from this University are bright in view of their expected quality education and training. The demand for highly qualified Engineers and Scientists specializing in new disciplines of engineering and technology is increasing because of the need to modernism and automation the industry so as to be competitive in the International Export Market for manufactured goods. Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology can, it is hoped meet the challenges of self reliance in scientific research and development. The facts and figures show that government, semi-government and private organizations prefer to engage the graduates of this University because of their skill and quality of Education. The most attractive part of the development scheme of the new campus, is the establishment of the IT- Park associated with the university. This will generate a very useful interaction between industry and research sector, resulting in quick resolution of industry problems and speedy growth in industrial sector. The IT Park shall also provide opportunities to students to train themselves as technologist of the highest caliber. The Park would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like wireless LAN/WAN, VSAT, video conferencing, disaster recovery sites, R&D labs, Tele-Medicine, IT incubation center, training institutes, and a global data center. The park would also offer supporting services such as travel & banking services, health club and security and safety systems. The idea is to have all IT and IT-enabled services under one roof. The University is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and also a member of UNESCO sponsored International Association of Universities (IAU) which has 50 years standing. SSUET is one of the Universities selected on the Administrative Board of IAU. The IAU advises UNESCO and world universities on higher education and research. The University is in the process of arranging meaningful collaboration with leading foreign universities. The representatives of a number of British and American universities have visited SSUET and have expressed their interest in such collaboration in the fields of Undergraduate / Postgraduate Studies, Research, Faculty development and Ph.D Programmes. The University has on-going collaboration Programmes with many Higher Education and Research Institutions of international repute. Following are some of the main features of the collaboration:
1. The students can study two years in SSUET and another two years in the foreign University to get a degree of the foreign University. These students would also be registered with the Professional Bodies of that country / the counter-parts of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) in Pakistan.
2. One third of the study for MS Degree may be completed in SSUET and the remaining two third in the foreign university for a foreign M.S. Faculty exchange between SSUET and foreign University.
3. Study through Video Conferencing. Condensed courses by visiting foreign Faculty. Split Ph.D Programmes for the Faculty of SSUET by spending some time in Foreign University and remaining time pursuing distant learning while in SSUET.
