The Governor of Sindh met with the delegation of Sir Syed University to discuss education reform.
A delegation of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, led by Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan, accompanied by the Chairperson of Zakir Ali Khan Foundation, Mrs Erum Akbar Ali Khan, met with Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi, at the Governor's House. The meeting focused on the crucial role of private universities in advancing modern education and ensuring quality learning opportunities for the youth of Pakistan.
Governor Hashmi voiced his concerns over the commercialization of education, stating, “Some institutions have turned education into a business, which is very unfortunate.” He advocated for a perspective that views education as a service sector, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing student learning and development over profit motives.
The Governor also highlighted the urgent need to equip young people with modern technology, research capabilities, and essential skills, declaring, “Equipping the youth with modern technology is the need of the hour.” He recognized the significant potential of private universities in enhancing the country's educational framework, asserting that “educated youth are the guarantee of Pakistan's bright and stable future.”
Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan responded by highlighting Sir Syed University’s commitment to providing modern, high-quality education at affordable fees. He remarked, “Sir Syed University has the best and most experienced faculty in the country,” reaffirming the institution's dedication to excellence in education.
The Vice Chancellor of Sir Syed University, Prof. Dr. Afzal Haque, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the university's prominent and exemplary role in providing contemporary education to the youth of Sindh. The Registrar, Cdre. (r) Syed Sarfraz Ali, SI (M), added that the university continues to strive for innovation and quality in its educational offerings.
