Meet Tehreem Mukhtar of the Department of Allied Health Sciences at The Superior University, Lahore, whose research explores a promising new dimension in stroke rehabilitation: the gutโ€“brain connection.

Her research highlights how the trillions of microorganisms in our gut may influence brain health, inflammation, neuroplasticity, and post-stroke recovery.

The study explores how gut microbes can contribute to the production of important neurotransmitters and short-chain fatty acids, while also examining how probiotics, prebiotics, personalized nutrition, and physical therapy could potentially support better rehabilitation outcomes.
