BASR Meeting Strengthens Research and Academic Excellence at Fatima Jinnah Medical University
A meeting of the Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) was held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), Lahore, under the chairmanship of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal.
The meeting was specially graced by Prof. Aamer Zaman Khan, Director General PHOTA and former Vice Chancellor of FJMU. In his remarks, he appreciated the consistent and timely convening of BASR meetings, highlighting their vital role in strengthening research culture, enhancing academic standards, and elevating the university’s overall academic standing.
The session was attended by distinguished members including Principal FJMC Prof. Abdul Hameed, former Vice Chancellor Prof. Shamsa Humayun, Dean Surgery & Allied Surgical Specialties Prof. Aisha Malik; Dean Undergraduate / Chairperson Medicine / Director DME / Director QEC Prof. Bilquis Shabbir; Dean Medicine & Allied / Head of Dermatology / Registrar Prof. Muhammad Nadeem; Dean Basic Sciences Prof. Aliya Zahid and Dean Nursing Prof. Shamila Ijaz Munir.
Other notable participants included Prof. Dr. Junaid Sarfaraz, Director Academics, Health Services Academy; Prof. Naveed Akhtar Hotiana, Prof. Imran Aslam, Prof. Muzamil Hussain, Prof. Noor-ul-Ain Waheed, Prof. Qamar Ashfaq, Prof. Amna Euseph, Prof. Fouzia Ishaq, Dr. Verda Ashraf, along with faculty members from various departments.
During the meeting, the Board unanimously approved 12 research synopsis, while suggesting minor amendments where necessary. Candidates also appeared before the Board along with their supervisors to present and discuss their research proposals.
The Board further approved several important agenda items, including the appointment of supervisors for various MD/MS programs and the approval of research projects. These decisions are expected to facilitate the smooth progression of academic and research activities, further strengthening the university’s commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and quality medical education.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the valuable contributions of all participants.
